Minerals Corporation Updates African Exploration Program

Minerals Corporation (ASX: MSC) has delivered an update on its exploration activities within the Katanga Province, which is located in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The company undertook a short diamond drilling campaign which included four holes over 370 metres, targeting the faulted rocks of the Calcaire Rose dolomite near the contact with underlying diamictites of the Petit Conglomérat - which demonstrated anomalous copper grades in trenching.

Importantly - all four holes intercepted disseminated copper (malachite and chalcopyrite) within the Calcaire Rose dolomite unit, with minor chalcocite also occurring within carbonate veins.

The highest copper value intercepted was 0.44 metres at 0.96% copper from 73.39 metres from borehole LSCB-17.

Murray Ward, managing director, commented: "the contact between the Calcaire Rose and the underlying Petit Conglomérat units is proven to provide a conducive environment for trapping mineralised fluids.

"Structure plays a significant role in controlling the nature of the mineralisation within these stratigraphic units; this is the key reason the Company recently undertook a comprehensive geophysical review of the tenement package.

Ward added that the short campaign has confirmed the company's understanding of the controls of potential copper mineralisation - which allows a more precisely targeted follow up at Luishia.

"At Luishia, geophysics has highlighted large-scale structural targets which coincide with elevated copper in soil results and favorable geology."

Analysis indicates the existence of broad zones of elevated copper across the southern central portion of Luishia, which confirms the company's original exploration model for this area.

Next exploration steps

Exploration will continue to move forward with Minerals Corporation now planning to undertake ground reconnaissance of the identified priority target areas.

During November the focus will be on follow-up on the geophysical targets for Kipita (PR-6533), Luishia (PE-4981), Kisangwe (PR-5480) and Kilobelobwe (PR-5338).

The Sakania East and West projects also host numerous prospective targets and will be reviewed post the upcoming wet season.
