Blackthorn Resources Appoints New Chief Executive Officer

Blackthorn Resources (ASX: BTR) has appointed Mark Mitchell as its chief executive officer with effect from 1 January 2014.

He has previously held senior operational and general management roles with Perseverance Corporation, MPI Mines/Leviathan Resources, Lihir Gold and more recently Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM).

Mitchell has operational and corporate in a variety of fields including management responsibility for the construction, development and operation of mine site activities and services in Australia and challenging overseas environments, longer term strategic planning, management of social and community engagement programs and leadership development.

"Mark's appointment comes at an important time for the Company and we are very pleased to have secured the services of such an experienced mining industry professional," chairman Bill Cash said.

He added that Mitchell's experience would be invaluable as the company progressed the development of its important Zambian assets, and as its joint venture investment in the Perkoa Project in Burkina Faso progresses into the critical operational phase.

Blackthorn has recently extended an additional mineralised zone at the Kitumba copper project in Zambia and updating Resources for the project.
