Axiom Mining (ASX:AVQ) is building the potential of its West Guadalcanal Project in the Solomon Islands as it unearths more bulk tonnage style results from trenching.
Best results included: 30m at 1.82 g/t gold including 3 metres at 14.76 g/t gold which is still open.
Indicating the tenor of the large widths and bulk tonnage tenor were further results that included:
- 67 metres at 0.55 g/t gold and
- 51 metres at 0.41 g/t gold (still open).
The results support the existence of continuous gold mineralised zone along a 1.4 kilometre strike length.
It also follows recent results that returned broad zones of gold including 34 metres at 1.11 grams per tonne gold and 16 metres at 1.93g/t gold.
This had confirmed highly anomalous gold-in-soil geochemistry as a large target zone of mineralisation with high gold grade potential.
"These new results further increase our confidence in the West Guadalcanal Project," chief executive officer Ryan Mount said.
"Additional higher grades within broad gold mineralised zones at surface continue to validate the potential of this project."
Taho Epithermal Gold Prospect
The newest results from the completed trenching program affirms recent encouraging results from the trenching program and resampling of a series of short historical trenches in the central Taho area.
Highlights from new results include:
- 43 metres at 0.40g/t gold from HVTC035;
- 29 metres at 0.38g/t gold from HVTC042;
- 67 metres at 0.55 g/t gold from HVTC042;
- 30 metres at 1.82 g/t gold including 3 metres at 14.76 g/t Au from HVTC043;
- 51 metres at 0.41 g/t gold from HVTC044; and
- 50 metres at 0.39 g/t gold from HVTC045.
Axiom has developed an exploration model for mineralisation at Taho as being hosted in a carbonate base-metal gold low sulphidation epithermal system, a view endorsed by an independent consultant.
The east of Taho is interpreted to be at the mid levels of a bicarbonate blanket.
Pathfinder geochemistry, alteration and style of veining in trenches strongly support this interpretation.
Likewise central Taho is interpreted as being in the lower limits of bicarbonate and oxygenated groundwater zones based on field evidence, pathfinder geochemistry and the trenching result including the high grade zone of up to 14.76g/t gold.
The west of Taho is defined by the presence of intermingled acid sulphate and bicarbonate zones consistent with the upper levels of the system.
Axiom is planning to carry out a further 250 metres of trenching to either infill to better define structural controls, or to close off anomalies in trenches prior to drill targeting
Initial trenching is imminent at the Polo target (located 2 kilometres along strike to the northeast), while soil sampling continues at Mt Tanjili target.
West Guadalcanal covers 485 square kilometres and is considered under‐explored and highly prospective for Southwest Pacific style mineralisation, namely gold‐silver‐basemetal epithermal and copper‐gold porphyry including skarn mineralisation.
Axiom Mining continues to report promising exploration results from its West Guadalcanal Project that further increases confidence in the project.
Further results are awaited.
The additional higher grades within broad gold mineralised zones at surface continues to validate the potential for a bulk tonnage style system.
Further trenching will either infill to better define structural controls, or to close off anomalies in trenches.
Which is all leading to targeting for drilling in the east and central areas of the Taho prospect.
