n February 2010, British Airways’ (LSE: BAY) passenger air-traffic and capacity improved on a year-on-year basis. Passenger traffic numbers improved by 1.1% in Revenue Passenger Kilometres, and Available Seat Kilometres were reduced by 1.9%.
The comparative passenger load factor increased by 2.2 percentage points compared to last year, to 74.2%.
The FTSE100-listed airliner noted that last February’s traffic data was affected by significant weather disruption in the first week of the month.
British Airway’s premium service achieved a notable improvement, with a 5% increase in traffic. Non-premium traffic recorded a more modest 0.3% increase. The company’s cargo operations also carried more goods year-on-year, Cargo Tonne Kilometres rose by 9.2% against February 2009 last year.
The company also noted a number of strategic developments during the month. The company highlighted that its transatlantic cooperation with American Airlines and Iberia had received tentative approval from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for antitrust immunity. Discussions regarding approval in the European Union continue.
