The investigative journalists at Project Veritas are at it again, and this time they visited local police departments across the nation and asked law enforcement officials what residents should do if they are threatened by a break-in, armed robbery or other violent crime.
Most of the localities visited, like New York and New Jersey, have restrictive gun laws, so you can imagine that the answers were… quite creative (and not very encouraging).

While most police won't admit it, they can't prevent crime, only investigate and try to arrest criminals after the fact. There is no way that they can respond quick enough to stop a crime during commission unless by happenstance (luck of place). It is not only the right but the responsibility of every citizen to accept the responsibility to protect themselves, from other individuals or as our forefathers did, from tyrannical government. One of the checks and balances for our government is that they should have a healthy respect and a small amount of fear of the citizens taking collective action to demand our rights given in the Constitution. The Constitution is the agreement under which the citizens allow the government to rule, not over us, but for us. It is a contract between those governing and those governed. The "Bill of Rights" (the first 10 amendments) were agreed to be included as soon as possible after the signing of the Constitution, before the signing, as some States would have refused to sign the Constitution without this promise. After having just won a war of independence with a force of arms is there any doubt as to why there is a 2nd amendment? Whether to keep private or governmental criminals at bay, fire arms are needed to protect life, liberty and justice. I paraphrase Ben Franklin " Those who give up liberty for security will have neither." I do not advocate armed rebellion, however the government should know that if they go too far, it is a possibility.
I am so glad my main home base is in the Southwest where concealed carry legal with a felony check. I am not a fan of guns without paramount discretion and storage security. But I a, glad others really enjoy hunting and target shooting so it is an area with culture and expertise. I also think these new bans on this or that weapon are the wrong way to go, though with recent tragedies in the news I understand other's point of views. But the moment we abdicate the individual for the collective good, it's time to move. Of course I think we are ok though very polarized in the US. Back east one might look at a number of less than lethal solutions available to them. I am, still reeling at Bloomberg's cup size edict in NYC. If ever there was a city law that embodied all that can be absurd in progressive good intentions it has to be that one. I genuinely feel bad for those whose whole life is based in eastern seaboard. On Many practical matters, there has been a real deficit of common sense.
