  • Interesting Times For All Commodities And Investments!! PORTFOLIO #14.......  149 comments
    Feb 24, 2014 3:38 PM

THIS CHAPTER IS FOR POSTINGS FOR THE PORTFOLIO CHALLENGE ONLY !!

SO THAT ALL UNDERSTAND ANY POST FOR TRADES MADE DURING TRADING HOURS THE CLOSING PRICE OF THAT DAY IS USED. IMPORTANT CHANGE,,,,,,IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS EXPERIENCE MORE LIFE LIKE WE ARE GOING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL RULE THAT YOU HAVE UP TO THE MARKET OPEN TO GET THAT DAYS OPENING PRICE..

FOCAL WANTED US TO HAVE STOPS DURING THE DAY. BLUESKYFOREVER ALSO MADE A SUGGESTION. ACTUALLY I THINK THEY WERE DEMANDS. SO WE EVOLVED AND BECAME MORE COMPETITIVE AS THE RULES GET MODIFIED WEEKLY..

MY POOR TWO MAN IT DEPARTMENT HANDLES IT WAY BETTER THEN THE ACA WEBSITE..

YOU MUST OWN A STOCK THE DAY PRIOR TO THE EX DIVIDEND DATE TO COLLECT THE DIVIDEND!

What started out as a small group discussing anything related to investing has grown extremely educational over the last few months.

We have Authors, Financial Advisors, Seasoned investors, Experts in specific fields, and just the average Joe pitching in...

Folks.. we are growing and posters like it. If you are new to investing then this site is for you.

Here is the current link to our BLOG CHAPTER !http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/5038891-interesting-times/2342802-interesting-times-for-all-commodities-and-investments-chapter-37

The chapters continue to advance so this may not be the latest one. Please just look at the bottom of the chapter for the next link !!

As of now we have a small group of investors nervously playing a game. It is ONLY a game but as I have learned that if it is a competition and we do keep standings people take it seriously. I am happy to see this as I am learning while I lose money ( fiat of course, or monopoly money ) lol

But as we progress we are changing rules to make it fairer and more competitive. I have been received messages from all with your ideas and it is your game as well. So please feel free to add whatever thoughts you have. I hope over time other will join as we are still at the beginning stages.

I urge all to post on other articles and blogs what you like about our chapters and challenge in hopes others will either follow or join in the conversation. So keep posting when you trade why you trade for all to see the reasoning. Good luck to all !!

    Disclosure: I am long PSEC.

Additional disclosure: I own physical gold and silver, and a few mutual funds !!

Yes. Difficulty confirming whether (UGAZ) closed at $29.27 or $29.44. Conflicting numbers from multiple sites.

(UGAZ), Oh yeah, it is well below zero here in IA; will set new cold record lows like -12 below zero; about 30 degrees below normal.

In actuality, the earth is approaching apogee from the sun. The last few times this happened, Ice Ages occurred. Perhaps our "Warming" may delay or prevent an ice age. I hate cold, so may just keep moving South LOL.

At my age, I won't need many. I'll just go back to Viet Nam. Gawd it was comfortable there until it got over about 110 with 110% Humidity.
You could open a pack of cigarettes there, and if you hadn't smoked them in ~24 hours, they would begin to mold. By 36 hrs, they were green.
Parked at the airbase at Cam Rhan Bay in the middle of acres of concrete one day, the thermometer on my Huey's windshield read 142 in the sun. Our only shade was under the Bird on litters on the concrete.

Author’s reply » My last two days of trading shows what gambling looks like. I did it to see how much luck I would have and it turned out to be no luck..

That is why one must be careful with those 3x leverage in real life. I used it once, got lucky , and just proved that to myself .

(DUST) and (NUGT) are dangerous plays. In hindsight I should have bought (DUST) on Friday expecting bad news from Russia over the weekend.

That got priced in at the open on Monday so it was a timing issue. In RLP I opened a small position in (NUGT) on Friday and closed it yesterday. But a small play , not much to brag about.

That is what this game is all about. The markets are shrugging off overseas issues as of now. A sign we are healing and heading in the right direction it seems.

    IT
Trading is how you approach it,gambling or a profession.
    If your success rate is 10% than it's gambling,if 80%+ than it's a profession.
Just like in real life,if you choose to see only the dark side than life is dark. If you see the light than...... you pick,we all make our choices and get our consequences accordingly.
I'm not going to put IMO,because know this as a fact.

AL,you did not let anybody down !
Everybody should be a mature adult claiming responsibility for their own action. You followed me and that went wrong,on your own you do fine.
However being accused of getting sucked in shows a serious flaw of character IMHO.

Does anyone know what happened at LBTYA? Was there a split that doesn't show or did I just take a ~50% Haircut? Strange because Berkshire just bought ~3M shares announced the 14th. I cannot find any news anywhere on what happened.

Stock grant from acquisition of Ziggo.

I did my best to reflect it on the sheet. If you feel a correction needs to be made, please let me know.

Oh boy, just looked at the chart and looks like a huge drop!
A split would not have that effect since you would hold more shares. At my broker site there was some news about the sec. but didn't give any details. Look at the sec web site.

OK, I had looked before the adjustment and saw just the LYBTA SP down like 48% without the awarded shares. I'm still trying to figure the gain/loss, as I had gone from yesterday's close at ~84. I'll need to see the numbers tomorrow to see how it all fell out.
Do you remember my original purchase price?

at http://yhoo.it/1cAfzCs it shows LBTYA Open at $43.62 and close at $43.32. Schwab said open at 44.15.
I don't know what my costs are frankly.
In any event, at least it wasn't a crash, just an event.
Found my buy price at 87.51 so it all adds up correct IMO

It was a 1-for-1 grant. I credited you with 114 shares of (LBTYK) @ $43.35 each, and reduced your cost per share on (LBTYA) by $43.35 / share. They did not give many specifics on the transaction, so I did the best I could. If you think it should be valued differently, let me know.

I believe that you did the only fair thing, in as much as there is much confusion in the articles posted on Yahoo. Lets just stick with this unless something radically different is announced. Stocks seldom open where they closed the day before, and this stock is traded more in Europe than the US, which throws the Time Zone wrench into the works.
Now if I had held Ziggo, it could have gotten really weird.
You have a tough and time consuming enough job as it is,

Is it possible for me to set Sell Targets for my stocks?
Meantime I want to sell both LBTY's and buy UA
Articles about LBYTA talk about a 1 time dividend, but it was for holders of record 2/12, so don't add that to me if you read about it somewhere.

No. There are no limit orders allowed. So do you want to sell your LBTY shares tomorrow, and replace w/ UA tomorrow?

If you could, let me know definitively on trades. Like this:

    Sell (XYZ) at open.
    Buy (ABC) at open.

Sometimes it is difficult to discern intentions.

    Sorry about the confusing post.
Please sell (LBTYA) and (LBTYK) at open and buy (UA) with the Proceeds.
Reason is that with the 2:1 Split, BlockDesk has no Market Maker data to draw upon.

Actually, now that I think about it, sell prices were allowed. But it is simple sell orders (i.e. like a stop-loss, if it hits the sell price, it's sold - no auto-adjusts up, etc.)

That, like stop-loss prices have to be monitored by the holder. Sales are not automated.
