I could put on this bio my education, work experience, investment strategy, and a nice thin (if I can find one) picture of me in a suit looking *smart*. Sorry but that's not my intent here. Sure I invest, help family make financial decisions, and make a ton of mistakes along the way. But my time... More

I will be listing those that participate their blogs to expand the horizon for us. We will have the blogs already running. But we now will have a few more..

We have Authors, Financial Advisors, Seasoned investors, Experts in specific fields, and just the average Joe pitching in...

Folks.. we are growing and posters like it. If you are new to investing then this site is for you.

    John Wilson...
Two part blog on Healthcare: First installment,
The Healthcare Fallacy. I will take a critical and challenging look at the system we refer to as "Healthcare. "Here is a sentence from it:

The US "healthcare" system does nothing to prevent disease or create personal health. The primary emphasis is on treating symptoms without understanding what caused the symptoms in the first place.

Join me in questioning the established order. http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/776251-john-wilson/2380302-the-healthcare-fallacy?source=kizur_seekingalpha

ADAM GALAS......I'm running an interesting experiment of which is better long term, high yield/low dividend growth vs low yield/fast dividend growth. It's a long term, multi year project, covering 50 amazing companies and I'd like to invite your readers to take a look. Here is the Dividend Growth portfolio:

    seekingalpha.co...

Found some amazing hidden gems in there. Most are small-mid cap, under followed, but for patient investors will crush the market.

Then here's my high yield portfolio. I think you're readers will find it interesting. Yield is 8.8% and average dividend growth rate is 7.74% so still beating inflation.

    OLD WARRIOR

My Blog is about a method of maximizing yield above and beyond traditional "Buy and Hold" investing by using Market Makers hedging activities to ascertain the opinions of the people who have the most up-to-date information, and the deepest pockets; and need to use it to protect their 7 figure salaries. With the information gleaned, the active investor learns a new way of investing, that of building your own "ETF", and looking at it as a whole rather than at individual stocks. Disciplined investing that involves precise sell Price and Time Targets. This is a demonstration of the available Tools for the active investor. seekingalpha.com/instablog/1723621-oldwa...

FOCAL POINT....Medical and overseas commentary.. a MUST look! His blogs have been around way longer then mine has. EVERYONE should take a peek and see how much information is supplied.

You know all of us are with you ! Thanks for serving our Country. I was talking to a young vet the other day and this is sickening.

He served overseas within the last few years and still today we have idiots in life that will still talk trash to them in the airports, shopping malls, etc.. He is only 24 years old.

Some of our citizens really need a wake up call. I salute all VETS EVERYDAY !!

Thanks all for your support. This is always a rough weekend (Memorial Day), as my unit lost so many men killed or wounded. Some great friends, some I barely knew; but all my brothers.
Throw in my personal problems and I just lost about the last 10 days period.

On Investig note, What hit Gold while I was away? $1263? WOW.

Oldwarrior, sorry to hear about your wife, i hope rehab helps and she improves. One note about strokes, a carrot per day can prevent strokes in many people. If you do a search on 'carrot stroke prevention' you will find the study. I suggest juicing a few carrots per day with an apple and some strawberries. It is surprising good.

As far as gold, as long as the comex prints 120x as much gold as is physically held, higher prices will be difficult. Rallies will always get squashed.

"Old School" He would just disappear, possibly to be found in a couple centuries in pieces in the foundation of a Sports Stadium.
In this case however, his (the CIA Agent) name was already known to Kabul, and thus to every Islamic nation, or friends thereof.
The Kabul government has so many foreign operatives there it is like the Pink Panther movie where there were like 30+ spies killed by each other while trying to get to (I'm gonna murder this name) Inspector Clouseau.
In fact, our whole gov is like a Pink Panther movie except no one is laughing.

I read a piece somewhere GS said no boost to revenue and that volatility is a boost to fee's.
I think GS is right the only boost will be what PJM did the other day.Price per kilo watt hour is the worm of inflation, been taken for granted a long time.

The answer is so simple. It's not "stingy lenders and wary borrowers".
It's the decline/absence of the middle class.
Attention-My Daily Rant below this line!
    ______________________...
The jobs have all been outsourced, manufactured goods in every place you go say "Made in China".
Apple can't build phones here, car parts are made elsewhere and only (to some extent) assembled here. Heavy industry cannot compete with Chinese steel that is made without any pretense of environmental control. The Chinese themselves are dying far faster than they can be replaced due to urban pollution. The only industry that cannot be outsourced is Agriculture, so migrants not only do the work others don't want to, but they also fill the canneries, Truck Drivers (In New Mexico you do not need to show legal residence to get all types of drivers licences, from regular to "Class C" Commercial. Last time I renewed, they asked if I wanted a standard license or a chauffeur's. The difference, Regular is 8 years, Cha is 4 but same price. I might add that even the DMV has outsourced to "MVD Express" (some employees there spoke no English at the local office) .
The bottom line-as the article said, builders all want to build premium High Profit homes. They aren't even building "Starter Homes" out in the desert here anymore, much less in the suburbs.

The Spring housing bounce hasn't quite arrived as Pending Home Sales only edged higher in April, the 0.4% gain falling short of estimates of 1%. On a Y/Y basis, the Pending Home Sales Index of 97.8 is lower by 9.2%.

OAG: This is not as big of a deal that some are making it out to be. Remember the cold winter that we just had. Q1 temperatures for the US were just revised and it was actually 2.3% colder than was initially reported.

I'm sure that it is, but for now I think it explains why the market is at record highs despite the negative revision in GDP. With that colder weather actually colder than we thought it was, it sure makes that revised GDP number look as though the recovery is still right on target.

I hope you are right. I shudder to think of one's portfolio if a large correction heads our way. Personally , I really don't buy that polar vortex excuse.

As a kid this winter was normal for us in Upstate NY. But let's see where the next two quarters end up. Job growth is still anemic, college kids are searching for jobs with loans to pay.

I think we will have a better handle on what were "told" in a few months imo. But my shovel is still in the front of my garage.

Hey IT...thanks for the note...under a lot of pressure to get the book written. Probably still have a couple months, but only one more here in Hawaii away from civilization.

Decided to start trading options again.

    Current options positions:

Long GLD 121.50 at end of day - June 20 exp. 10 contracts
Long GLD 125 at end of day June 20 exp. 5 contracts
Short QQQ 90.63 at end of day June 20 exp.
Long CVX 125 July 18 exp.
Short XLU 42 July 18 exp. (only one I am down on)

Up $228 on above, but expect a lot more.

Sold NUGT option I bought at end of day yesterday for $500 profit.

Overall up $728 for the first 24 hours of trading options again.

Still negative on gold overall based on my indicators. Just playing the short term bounce. Some clients doing some buying with this dip. Gives me a little insight into direction.

    Cheers!

Bought NUGT back today and still holding, up over a point. Gold should turn up for a bit next week. If so, NUGT, which held up well today with gold's weakness, should fly a bit.

Will sell out of everything with any bounce in gold toward $1,260 to $1,268.

Feds investigating Carl Icahn, Phil Mickelson for insider trading

The FBI and SEC are pursuing a major insider trading probe involving investor Carl Icahn, golfer Phil Mickelson and Las Vegas gambler Billy Walters, according to multiple reports.
Investigators reportedly are examining whether Icahn (IEP) passed non-public tips on investments he was planning to make to Walters, and whether Walters then tipped Mickelson.

The government investigation is said to have begun after Icahn accumulated a 9% stake in Clorox (CLX) in Feb. 2011; Icahn made a $10.2B bid for CLX in July, and large, risky trades made in CLX options in the days before the bid sparked rumors that word had leaked.

Authorities also are looking into trades Mickelson and Walters made related to Dean Foods (DF).

IT, If you have been following Goldman Sachs forecast of 1050 gold, (due to the US market recovery), yes you should sell your physical gold right now, and short paper gold down to ~ 1050. Then, cover your shorts and start to re-accumulate physical gold at these lower levels. That is our marching orders. GS is just looking out for you and all of us.

Still ahead of the game even at $1050. I stopped buying once we went over 1k.. Silver though is right around my break even price..

But my physical is guarded by my watchdogs and I really don't consider it an investment. More like insurance. But those two watchdogs ( 12 and 20 Gauge) do a good job.

Still need work on my bunker though.

I'd still really advocate that this is a great buying time for physical. There does appear to be a lot of demand for physical, particularly from the east. But I still imagine if just enough holders of physical gold heed the advice of GS, and sell their physical and/or short gold right now, down to the eventual 1050, that may be a little bit of help to provide some supply to the aggressive demand from the east.

Right now, I still think that physical is a great investment, and a buy in to physical at real/normal rates (whatever that may be), is good insurance.

I hope your "dogs" don't bite, or are required too. Keep after that bunker, I may need to rent a few square feet.

Concerning the bunker, you might have to decide pretty quickly. A deposit would be needed. Unfortunately fiat money isn't accepted. The ones with the windows facing the East are gone already !

I'm worried that Tom Ricketts is going to move his team out of Chicago and maybe out to the burbs. (Although Arlington Heights, and a parking lot would be nice). Ricketts renovation plan negotiations are not going that well with Chicago and the community. Maybe if the Cubs can finally build their own stadium, they could win a championship. It's tough playing at the old Chicago Whales field, the only major league baseball team to win a Championship at the current old park in Chicago.

I'll keep going. Regarding your psec question - holding but wouldn't be surprised if it drops a bit more this month. IIRC around June 20 is the Russell index reset. Then hopefully that sec stuff clears up and things get back on track. Hopefully.

I have no idea. I bought back in whenever the index bdc stuff was announced and the price dropped below 11. Then there was the sec hysteria and the price tanked and then seemed to settle. I'm just not going to expect anything great out of it for awhile. Call it willful ignorance for a bit - I'll focus on other things and just drip it.

One thing I do wish they would do is stop announcing dividend increases months ahead of time and wait until they Know they can cover it.

Here's another interesting site I found linked in a recent SA news article. I like the way it is easy to look at a lot of information in different ways.

It also has a user friendly portfolio tool that looks that might come in handy. I find that practice trading really helps in learning how to make the right moves before going live. Practice makes perfect.

A couple of days ago I think we were talking about it. That's one reason they should quit with these micro-increases in the dividend well out into the future. Fine when things are good, but I'd rather them be more conservative if things don't turn out so good. Wonder if the SEC probe has thrown much of a wrench into their business prospects for the rest of the year?

Question for you - do you drip or collect the dividends?

It is in a ROTH account so I drip . Was planning on using the dividends when I retire and then let whatever shares I had accumulated up to that point just sit.

So I am hoping this is just a minor blip.. Honestly, since I don't need the funds right now I don't mind the lower price. HOWEVER if they cut the dividend ???

Same deal with the Roth and the drip. Well, a dividend cut would be bad. But that's just speculation on our parts at the moment.

I know you're not the biggest fan of them, but here's a chart of psec vs. bizd (bdc etf):

    http://bit.ly/1ot2rWm

    http://bit.ly/1ot2rWt

They're both ugly so it's not just psec being pounded - looks like pretty much all bdc's are still getting it and may for a while yet.

I don't fully understand them either. Too much like Rorschact prints as far as looking for the patterns traders like.

One thing I do know is that when you've got a 50 day moving average crossing the 200 day moving average to the downside (which is true for both of these charts) prices are likely to continue in that direction for a while.

My first rule written in my notebook is "never sell for a loss", so I'm planning on holding too.

Time to taper the taper. Keep that money flowing to the equities! Just a little bit longer now. We will print our way back to prosperity, and the markets will soar! Or is that sore?

Author’s reply » "General Motors is reported to have filed 2,004 accounts of injuries and deaths from accidents in cars that have been recalled, reports the Center for Auto Safety. The scope of the defect seems to not only cause the airbag not to deploy, but also affects electric power steering and brakes. A Reuters analysis released yesterday also suggests that possibly 74 people have died in accidents stemming from the faulty ignition switch. GM (GM) has so far only linked 13 deaths."

Do I feel bad for those stockholders. This is a serious issue and I think also just the tip of the iceberg. Wait until other countries start reporting their fatalities. Lawyers are lining up at the door!

    Thoughts ??

My thoughts are that we kept this company alive to satisfy the war machine (if needed). GMIt will be buried with its lack of quality it seems (no need to mention the unsustainability of the UAW business model).

Author’s reply » Some have argued on another site that this is a great strategy, getting ALL the recalls done at once, even little ones.

Not sure many bought that one ! Personally , I would never buy a (GM) product.

Will take awhile to earn the reputation Toyata has for building long lasting quality vehicles.

More importantly, I need a push on NUGT here. Will you blow on it for me?

    Make or break time.

Worked IT! Sold my options I bought lower for nice profit and still holding NUGT straight out. See what the ECB brings tomorrow. Need gold to bust through $1,248 for a nice potential move higher. All in all, a nice reversal day.

Gold up a bit tonight so NUGT might get some loving. Index futures are up a bit as well, so Friday may see a mild rebound. Volume unlikely to be very high during this rather slow period. That's good because the most likely thing to drive volume is a selloff IMO.

Anytime he finds the cajones to stand up to Putin can't all be bad. So far he has looked like a whipped puppy after each meeting.

Author’s reply » WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House has apologized to key lawmakers for not notifying them in advance about the exchange of five Taliban detainees for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl (boh BURG'-dahl).

Sens. Dianne Feinstein of California and Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, the top Democrat and Republican respectively on the Senate Select committee on Intelligence, said White House officials called them Monday to say the lack of notification had been an oversight. Feinstein said she received a call from Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinken.

The White House did not immediately comment on the calls.

The White House damage control comes as Republican lawmakers accused the White House of putting U.S. service men and women at risk by releasing the five top Taliban members being held in Guantanamo in exchange for Bergdahl.

    Hi IT,

I think you recommended PSEC to me a year or so ago in a PM to me. I was not ready to buy at that time. After reading Scott Kennedy's articles, I decided to buy recently. Lots of twists and turns in a relatively short period of time as I am a new shareholder.

My cost basis is about $9.97 ( this includes the reinvested dividends that I see as lowering my cost basis).

Question: How long have you owned PSEC and has the last several months been unique, or is the news always so dramatic?

    Author’s reply » D

I have owned it for about 2 or 3 years now. Bought it the first time over $11 bucks. I did add more below $10 recently. Someone might comment here like USER but the BDC'S are usually very volatile . I have never seen the SEC try to change their statements nor have I read about any company going bankrupt.

Having said that I DRIP and am already in the green. I plan on watching it, maybe adding another one or two BDC'S but I think once the SEC issue went away , so did the Russell index issue.

The price drop , I believe for the Russell issue is now baked in, Quite frankly I would never make a BDC my biggest holding as I read on another link. But that monthly dividend will come in handy one day.

USER, JBT.... Have anything else to add to my thoughts??
