Sure I invest, help family make financial decisions, and make a ton of mistakes along the way. But my time... More

The Healthcare Fallacy. I will take a critical and challenging look at the system we refer to as "Healthcare. "Here is a sentence from it:

The US "healthcare" system does nothing to prevent disease or create personal health. The primary emphasis is on treating symptoms without understanding what caused the symptoms in the first place.

    OLD WARRIOR

My first Blog is meant to be a Forum as well as a guide discussing a method of using Market Makers hedging activities to ascertain the opinions of the people who have the most up-to-date information, and the deepest pockets; and need to use it to protect their 7 figure salaries. With the information gleaned, the active investor learns a new way of investing that has proven to consistently beat the S&P, as well as "Buy and Hold" investing. By sticking to strict, precise, disciplined Buy and Sell targets, the investor builds a Portfolio of stocks that are held either until they reach their "Sell Targets" or 63 Market Days, whichever comes first.. This Blog and Forum is a demonstration of some of the available Tools for the active investor, and for discussions regarding the use of such tools.
    seekingalpha.com/instablog/1723621-oldwa... .
My second Blog is about an ongoing study about using these same tools to show the investor how to use the Tools in the first Blog to find opportunities to both better select the "Best-of-the-Best, as well as to confidently add to well-regarded (by the Market Makers) stocks on dips to generate even more profit in the same time frame by using the profits of stocks that are sold by re-investing these profits, while using the returned Capital for new investing opportunities. This is a study-in-progress at seekingalpha.com/user/1723621/instablog.

My research on (MO) is showing about a 75% chance of as much as about a 4% gain over the next 3 months. (ED) is even worse with a 50% chance of a similar gain in that time.

Did anyone's research of (MO) catch the RSI reading under 20 in early February? That, and the MACD reading under -.5. That combination was as clear a buy signal in (MO) as you are going to get. Confirming this was a very similar technical situation on the exact same day for (PM). I like cross-confirmations.

The one year chart today shows the start of consolidation in the current trading ranges for both (MO) and (PM). I see nothing in the technicals that I follow indicating a good buying opportunity for either.

Buying opportunities in (MO) like last February are rare. I expect to wait years for the next.

Look at this 2 year chart of (MO). http://on.mktw.net/1r3...

Last February was the only time that RSI was under 20. However, MACD was under -.5 on two other occasions, and both times RSI was under 30. Both of those were excellent buying opportunities.

The next time MACD is under -.5, and RSI is under 30, I hope to be aware enough to 1) buy more, and 2) post a notice here. However, as you might guess, you have to be on top of (MO) virtually every day to do this. I don't expect myself to be able to do it consistently, age and health being issues. Right now I am recovering from knee replacement surgery and the pain meds fog the mind.

    IT,

I had the torn meniscus surgery in 1989. If your knee lasts as long as mine, you can expect to replace it in about 25 years.

    Trading slump behind Goldman downgrade.......

"If you’re wrong, you have to admit you’re wrong," says Bernstein's Brad Hintz, throwing in the towel on his Outperform rating for Goldman Sachs (GS -0.4%). "It certainly doesn't look like trading is going to generate effective returns."

And if trading does bounce back? "Yeah, they're a winner," says Hintz. "But over the next two years, it’s tough to make an argument that we’re going to see that winning occur.”

It looks like ISM manufacturing data, & ISM Manufacturing Employment numbers, released this am, were both just a little below forecast expectations. This is slightly negative news, therefore, we have a nice rally today.

Ignore the continued money printing by the FED, as it is probably a non-factor.

IT, You may want to move that ROTH IRA into something like Scottrade, Ameritrade, E-Trade, etc. This could give you more ease/flexibility with managing your investments, along with likely lower management fees and low trade commissions.

IT, Yes. Many of the Pro's, of which I also respect, would probably rip me a new one for suggesting a 25-50% position in physical metals right now, but I continue to believe gold/silver is significantly undervalued right now, and with a 10-year investment window, one should do very well. If my speculation is right, there may be opportunities to later move pm holdings down to the 10-20% range, at a nice profit, while moving into stocks at a better buy in. Just an opinion of an ordinary average guy.

IT I know there are many here who like metals, but seeing the threat of deflation rather than inflation, I just don't see silver or gold in excess of 5-10% of a portfolio as wise atm. There are Euro countries with negative interest rate bonds in efforts to stop deflation. At the first sign of inflation, they have huge amounts of tools to curb it. Q1 GDP numbers keep getting worse.
Meanwhile, the S&P and DOW are setting new records daily. You are missing out on many great opportunities to generate wealth.
Mutual funds are even worse, as the managers get paid 1-2% of your money, win or lose, and very few are even able to make half the S&P.
Beta is NOT a proxy for risk, it is where the opportunities lie. Volatility can be your friend if you set a well disciplined buy and sell strategy.
Take a peek at http://seekingalpha.co...;app=1&uprof=51 . Read it through and study the author's responses. IMO, you could take just the money you get from the sale of your excess silver and use just that to build wealth. After 6 months to a year, compare your gains in metals to your market gains. you are young enough to see in that period which way you want to turn. If inflation does begin, equities are liquid enough to buy back into metals if you so desire, but keep an open mind to new investment strategies if you want to be both active and not just sit back praying for inflation.

How to tell the market is topping-
When Magic Jack starts taking off and flying. Last sign is when the dogs start to take off. I bought (CALL) in the Portfolio Challenge at $20. It went down to 13.50 or so. It now is around 15.27 and appears to be launching.

I bought 200 in real life at 14.90 today. and may buy more as it clears its 9, 18, & 36 day Ave (short term signals).

When it double tops, the market will be maxed out.

    Author’s reply » DO PEOPLE HAVE A DEATHWISH ??

GM gains opportunity from recalls, customers find it a good time to buy !!!!!

General Motors' (GM) sales keep rising, despite all the recalls; instead of showroom business tanking - as Toyota’s did during its recall crisis four years ago - GM’s U.S. market share in June was 18.8%, up from 16.9% in January before it began its massive recall campaigns.

“The hardest part of selling is getting people in the door. Multiply that by millions of recalls, and that’s a lot of people coming to the dealership,” says Cars.com analyst Jesse Toprak.

Citigroup’s team thinks GM is well on its way to 10% margins, thanks in part to three uniquely valuable assets compared with Ford: a larger luxury business (Cadillac ~2x Lincoln), strong presence in high-margin large SUVs, and OnStar - combined, the three comprise ~20% of GM’s North America revenue base.

Unexpected big rate cut in Sweden !!!!

The Swedish krona is the world's worst performing currency today after the Riksbank unexpectedly slashes its benchmark rate by 50 basis points to 0.25%. A cut had been expected, but the size of the reduction has taken most by surprise.

The move comes following the ECB's rate cut last month, and with the zero bound fast-approaching, some suggest the Riksbank will have to look to unconventional measures next.

    IT

Sweden obviously does not have a hard currency now. They are playing the kill your currency to be "competitive" game against the other currencies. Well, they have won the "ugliest" sister contest.

All you can do it try to pick the currency that is the best relative to the others. Canada (FXC) is doing the best, then Australia though it had a bad day today though (FXA) has gone from 87 to 93.50 since Feb. I have both FXA & FXC.

The US dollar and the Euro play this game back and forth. If the dollar rises too much against the Euro, the Fed will act dovish or a bad economic report will come out to take the dollar down against the Euro so it can be "competitive" again.

Then they have the challenge to try to make gold look bad so it doesn't go up against the dollar at the same time. The "make gold look bad" is becoming a losing game for them.

Everything is going against them as they try to make gold look bad: Fed policy, spending, debt, and worst of all, Obama's foreign policy. BHO's foreign policy is single-handedly destroying world confidence in the US & the $USD.

Author’s reply » More on the jobs number.... Will the markets like this ? Does inflation now come into the picture ? Many unanswered questions.. Let's see how next week pans out . Today really won't mean much with most biggies already on vacation..

In addition to May's 7K upward revision, April's 282K job gain is revised higher to 304K, making for a total of 29K more jobs added during those two months.

Average hourly earnings of $24.45 in June is up $0.06 from May, and ahead 2% from a year ago.

The average hourly workweek remained flat at 34.5 hours for the fourth straight month.

The labor force participation rate is flat at 62.8%; it was 63.5% one year ago.

The employment-to-population ratio rose a tick to 59%.

The broader U-6 unemployment rate fell to 12.1% from 12.2% in May; one year ago it was 14.2%.

I admit I have been a skeptic all along with this QE-business as an effective tool to surgically move inflation to the desired levels, and also to bring down the unemployment levels.

With the holiday weekend already kicking off, Yellen should schedule a press conference first thing Monday morning, (say, 11 am eastern time or so). She should proudly claim victory in the success of the latest QE program to meet/exceed their stated goals, and announce the immediate end to QE-3 effective 7/7/14.

With inflation right on target, perhaps drifting a fraction of a percentage point higher, and 6.1% Unemployment, I think we all know that if we continue to grow this market too quickly, inflation may extend a little higher than desired. Therefore, the FED should raise the interest rates at least 50 basis points higher, immediately, and possibly another 50 basis points when unemployment drops below 5.7%, next month. 50 basis point raises monthly might be a good plan to hold to for the rest of 2014 as the economy starts moving strongly ahead.

And just in case this global warming brings us another record cold winter, we should immediately consult the Canadians as to how to keep the GDP strong during harsh winters. They are experts on cold winters and did fine during this past winter.

I was noticing my comment numbers and saw I was coming up on 1000. This is my 1000th comment. I try to limit them and not say something unless it is making some type of contribution or providing some useful info or commentary. I decided to post it here as my commenting home base.

Today is the 4th of July, I did read the Declaration of Independence. It led to curiosity to follow up on the topic of philosophical anarchy which can mean the absence of external authority or self government. It does not of neccessity mean "chaos". We ALREADY have that with more government than anyone would ever ask for.

Also today on the 4th I am filling out an account application to establish an offshore account in a Central American state.
