Sure I invest, help family make financial decisions, and make a ton of mistakes along the way. But my time... More

Almost hit low end of my goal (25-50% up). I did meet my secondary goal of beating inflation.

Agree that year went by fast. It was a doosey.

Curious if anyone has determined if dividends are automatically calculated or not? I haven't had time to investigate the new site much. Or even if in the rankings section we'll be seeing each other or just the biggest winners on that site.

    User,

This site claims that dividends are distributed on the stock's pay date (to cash, I'm assuming - no option to auto-reinvest that I've found). Not sure about seeing people's trades, but when the start date hits, you should be able to see rankings.

    Learning experience for me, too.

    Try this link:

    http://bit.ly/1jWomHV

It does not show up in the search function (yet?). It may take a day or two after start date for search to work - I dunno.

Also, on the left of the "dashboard", make sure it says "IT Investment Challenge 2" after the "Challenge:" drop-down thing.

    JBT,

Just checked and I do show the IT Challenge listing on the dashboard bit. But above that is a USD challenge, so I guessed I signed up for both. So I'll have to enter my trades for ours on Monday. I was wondering why we now have million dollar portfolios with up to a million in leverage.

IT,If a person could trade Gold for Silver at a ratio of 100 to 1 wouldn't that be a great trade ? The current ratio is about 63 to 1 . Sent 5 gold coins to the ANA show in Chicago this week in xchange for a Monster Box of 500 ASE coins. Of course they were type I Liberty $20 Gold coins just like the SaddleRidge find. http://bit.ly/1qU4sk2. Wish I could make that trade every week.

Author’s reply » I GUESS HEN YOU CAN'T DO IT ONLAND WHY NOT HEAD FOR THE WATERS. OF COURSE IT'S SAFE!!!

The next frontier for offshore drilling: deepwater fracking

Energy companies are taking their fracking operations from the land to the sea - the deep waters off the U.S., South American and African coast - as advances in technology and vast offshore discoveries finally have combined to make large scale deepwater fracking feasible.

The big play is in the Gulf of Mexico, where wells more than 100 miles from the coastline must traverse water depths of a mile or more and can cost nearly $100M to drill - a potential boon for oil service providers such as Halliburton (NYSE:HAL), Baker Hughes (NYSE:BHI) and Superior Energy (NYSE:SPN), and major producers such as Chevron (NYSE:CVX), Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) and BP could reap billions of dollars over time as fracking helps boost crude output.

At sea, wastewater from fracked wells is dumped overboard into the vast Gulf, where dilution renders it harmless, companies and regulators say; but "nobody knows what they’ve been discharging and in what amounts," according to the oceans director for the Center for Biological Diversity.

THIS IS SCARY AS NO ONE KNOWS THE LONG TERM EFFECT AND WHAT OUR KIDS WILL BE LEFT WITH !! I DON'T LIKE THIS ONE BIT >>>

Author’s reply » Very simple..Go to the chapter where I listed the link and password..

    http://seekingalpha.co...

Make sure once you sign up, which only takes a few minutes it sys the IT CHALLNAGE and not the DOLLAR CHALLANGE..

Then you click on the rankings and you should see us, or click on doing a trade and even I could do it.

JBT set the link up that automatically brings you to the IT CHALLANGE...Just make sure in the black section on the top after you sign up it says IT CHALLANGE..It has a drop down menu to another one. We are a private challenge.

JBT did a great job on setting it up, now as far as beating his wife ??????

If you need any help setting it up I would PM JBT as I have family for the next two days. I will log on late in the evening when everyone hits the sack.

Plus we have to get the chapter conversations going again. They went dormant once the challenge started !!

"Ken, This is a little strange to navigate, but try using link above to enter into the site. Login, and you should see a drop-down menu in the upper-left. My guess is that you are in the US Dollar Challenge. I have that game showing on my login as well as the IT challenge. The drop-down menu should give you the option to click on the *IT Investment Challenge 2*

After you are in the IT Challenge, you can click on the Home menu and you should have a start balance at $100,000. You can click on the *Make a trade* menu and perform any trades that you wish and should be good to go from there.

    I hope that helps."

It seems the combination of vectors heading into fall & winter will pressure some real down spikes, get ready for some real volatility, one does not correct a massive real estate melt down,an adverse forign policy and total neglect on human capital with imaginary numbers.

I recommend you read the Holter report.

    http://bit.ly/1pnSrAE

" Remember, in a world dominated by derivatives, all prices are illusion. If you don't believe that statement, consider the following. Silver is about $20 per ounce. This is cheaper than the price of silver in all of 1980, over 30 years ago. So, is the world awash in silver? Is silver so abundant that we can pave the streets with it? Is this why silver is so cheap? Nope. Silver is cheap because silver is priced with futures contracts and it is the supply of silver futures contracts that floods the world. Silver is scarcer than gold. Silver is scarcer than it was in 1900 when an ounce of silver was the daily wage of a banker or a lawyer. A daily wage of an ounce of silver in 1900 meant you were rich. A daily wage of an ounce of silver today means you starve to death. So, what is wrong with this picture? Is silver scarce or is it plentiful? The answer is silver is scarcer than it has ever been in the history of the world. So why is silver only $20 per ounce? Then the answer is that $20 silver is an illusion that the monetary interests want to project to maintain the overvaluation of paper currency. Twenty dollars should buy a GRAM of silver, not a full ounce. This artificial buying power of dollars will end, and when it does, you better be holding metal, not paper. Buy silver or gold while you still can. Both metals are silly cheap. That fact alone is a symptom of pending monetary system collapse."

Good point. In 2008 when silver - paper silver that is - went to $9 there was no one offering to sell it. "No offer." It doesn't matter how low the paper price goes when no one if offering to sell it.

But $20 is not an "illusion". You can really buy the REAL metal for $20/ounce. When it was down to a "paper" value of $18 & change, you could really buy the REAL metal for $18 & change/ounce.

Can't leave the door open on volatility and the gold standard is not a good thing to play with, but necessity dictates,no choice but to hover it +- 1300 through October,an 1100 or below gold is a disaster waiting to happen,we should never never of been playing these games in the first place and the inside knows "Iraq"

Their is no choice but to put controls and tolerance mechanisms in the balance of sector comprehensive, have to diminish the toxicity of our collective stupidity ,have to control the equation.

Author’s reply » I THOUGHT GERMANY WAS GOING STRONG ???

Euro continues slump after weak German numbers

Germany's ZEW survey of economic expectations declined to 8.6 in August from 27.1 in July and vs. expectations for a print of 18. It's the eighth straight month of declines and the indicator has reached its lowest level since December 2012.

It's another data point painting a picture of a sharply slowing economy following an unusually strong Q1. Last month, the closely-watched Ifo survey indicator fell for the third consecutive month.

The euro (NYSEARCA:FXE) is lower by 0.3% to $1.3344, it's weakest level since November. It was just three months ago, the currency touched $1.40.

Petrobras-linked money laundering probe spreads to banks

    Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (NYSE:PBR)

Brazil's money laundering probe linked to state-run Petrobras (PBR -1.2%) is spreading to financial institutions as prosecutors investigate whether they met compliance requirements.

Court documents cite units of banks including Citigroup (NYSE:C), Banco Santander (NYSE:SAN) and HSBC, as well as Brazil-based Itau Unibanco (NYSE:ITUB) and Banco Bradesco (NYSE:BBD) as holding accounts or executing operations linked to the alleged laundering of 10B reais.

The refining division at Petrobras already is under investigation for runaway spending including alleged inflated contracts to suppliers, and is cited as one of the possible sources of cash being laundered in the case dubbed “Car Wash” by police.

Car wash. I like that. Ill take the deluxe wash and here's a $1B to cover it .No surprise 2 experienced money laundering operations like CITI and HSBC would be involved. Petrobras has mucho debt and questions have been raised as to whether its oil being pumped from their deep sea wells or salt water.

Author’s reply » Japan's economy contracted sharply in the second quarter after a national sales tax in April rose 3% and triggered a sharp decline in consumer spending. Real GDP shrank 6.8% in the three months through June on an annualized basis from the prior quarter. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will have to address the tax issue again soon. A sales tax increase (which will raise the rate to 10%) has been approved by the Japanese government and will take effect in October 2015.

So I guess raising taxes isn't a good idea either ??? What will they try next >>>>

California the worlds 12 largest economy went from a $39B deficit to a surplus. Of course they had to raise taxes, fees etc to do it . Bottom line is you can't have it both ways when you try to borrow/print your way to prosperity while encouraging corps (as the gov has very successfully done) to continue outsourcing jobs overseas. Automation did the rest

It's easy to claim a "surplus" when you pick which debt obligations you choose to not include in the budget numbers...

California is no more likely than the U.S. federal government to EVER have a "balanced budget". Any talk of a "surplus" is a bunch of B.S.
