In energy news, you might have seen the market take a double take a the trading numbers of energy company McMoran Exploration Company (NYSE:MMR) . The firm is currently trading up a whopping 82.03% at $15.44. The robust trading day comes on the heels of the company's announcement that it will be acquired by Freeport McMoran Copper Company. The move effectively turns Mcmoran Exploration Company (MMR) into a large player at the forefront of the oil industry and its stock performance today is proof of that. McMoran Exploration Company (MMR) specializes in the production of oil and gas from the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The company is coming off of a rough third quarter that saw a net profit marginal loss of close to 58%.

In technology news Tibco Software (NASDAQ:TIBX) is having a consecutive rough day on Wall Street. The company is currently trading down 19.11% at $20.00. This comes after the firm finished down 10.4% yesterday at the end of the trading day. Much of the stock's recent underperformance comes from its underperformance in fourth quarter expectations; the company reported revenue gains of 37 cents per share which is below the expected 44 cents per share that analysts predicted. The Palo-Alto, California based firm is coming off of a third quarter that saw a net profit margin increase of 10.23%. Tibco Software (TIBX) is a software firm that provides infrastructure and middleware software.

In internet technology news, Pandora (NYSE:P) is not having a good trading day. The company is currently trading down 19.21% at $7.64. This comes after the company had mixed news in regards to its profits for the third quarter and expectations for the fourth quarter; the company posted third quarter net profit gains of $2 million. Conversely, the firm also predicted fourth quarter losses of between 6 cents and 9 cents per share . The lowered expectations for the fourth quarter are as a result of skepticism on the part of advertisers because of tempered macroeconomic predictions and the worries over the government "fiscal cliff". Pandora (P)is an internet company that allows users to stream playlists of their favorite artists for free.

In retail news, Mattress Firm Holding (NASDAQ:MFRM) Corporation is having a difficult trading day. The company's stock is currently trading down 20.84%. This comes after the firm revealed that it posted revenue gains of 37 cents per share which is down from 55 cents per share in the same quarter last year. This news prompted a sharp drop in the stock as many investors question its strength going into the new year. Mattress Firm Holding Corporation (MFRM) is a Houston, Texas-based retailer of mattresses.
