    YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new cars and trucks in the Mahoning Valley in November were 72% higher than their dismal performance in November 2009.
    Auto dealers in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties say sales of new vehicles hit 1,677 units during the month versus 972 sold in November 2009 -- an improvement of 72.5% -- according to the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report.
    Year to date, new vehicle sales were up 12.4%, the dealers association said. Through November, dealers reported 18,099 sales compared to 16,095 during the same period in 2009.
    The Chevrolet Cruze, the new small car produced at General Motors Co.'s Lordstown Complex, proved the second-highest selling new vehicle in the Mahoning Valley in November with 84 sales. November was the second full month of production since its launch in mid-September.
    GM Lordstown is expected to hit full production of the Cruze this month, thereby boosting dealer inventory for January.
    The Chevrolet Malibu was the best-selling model last month as showrooms sold 138. Behind the Cruze were the Ford Focus and the Chevrolet Silverado, both with 63 sales, and the Chevrolet Equinox, with 55 new sales.
    At 114, Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, posted the best new-vehicle sales compared to 36 last year, an increase of 216%. Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported selling 86 new vehicles, Fairway Ford, Canfield, 82 new cars and trucks, Columbiana Buick 75, and Diane Sauer Chevrolet rounded out the top five volume new-car dealers with 72 new units sold.
