Forex: Canadian Dollar Gains on Stronger Commodities and Stocks
Written by Sonia Bruno     January 06, 2011

The Canadian dollar strengthened against the US dollar and the Euro today after commodities and stocks rallied on a significant growth in the employment level in US. The US employment increased a staggering 297,000 in December, an approximately three times larger figure than the forecasts. The good news boosted investors’ risk appetite, spurring commodities and stocks. Crude oil for February delivery gained 1.1 percent to trade at $90.32 per barrel on the NYMEX. The MSCI World Index reached a two-year high yesterday.

USD/CAD traded at 0.9967 at about 23:40 GMT after opening at 0.9982; while EUR/CAD tumbled to 1.3108 from the opening level of 1.3282.
