Today, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced it had made a wearable technology version of its Android operating system, called Android Wear, and released a developer preview of it. It will be on devices made by a variety of companies, and a Motorola Moto 360 watch has already been unveiled, along with an LG G watch.
I like this news both as an investor and as a tech consumer. This is just another way Google is trying to own the future, and that's one reason why I own its stock.
I am also very excited about the Moto 360 and plan to buy it as my daily watch. I wear watches a lot, and they look far better than the smartwatches available from Samsung and Sony. This, judging by the video and images released, seems to match the look and feel of a traditional watch while giving the added functionality and utility of a smartwatch.
Disclosure: I am long GOOG.
