As reported by Finextra, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) has become the latest bourse to signal a crackdown on the huge number of messages high-frequency traders generate. The SSE has revealed that will impose trading limits on accounts "with such abnormal trading behaviors as making orders in a large sum or at high prices, or conducting frequent false orders and withdrawals."

Firms that do not comply with the new rules will be faced with punitive repercussions of being designated unqualified investors, facing trading restriction for several days and referral to the China Securities Regulatory Commission.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange and its competitor, Shenzhen Stock Exchange pursue the same objective of curbing excessive speculation and volatility that drives HFT strategies in newly listed companies. New rules equivalent to a 30-minute suspension on shares that rise of fall by 10% from their opening prices on their first day of trading.
