  • Applied DNA ($APDN) "Crime fighting has never had a weapon like this" 1 comment
    Nov 21, 2011 12:13 PM | about stocks: APDN
Applied DNA Sciences (OTCBB: APDN; Twitter: $APDN) has started a new marketing campaign that promotes their patented DNA security solutions to protect products, brands and intellectual property from counterfeiting and diversion. You will now see on the Applied DNA website the new marketing tagline:

"Crime fighting has never had a weapon like this"

The new tagline for APDN, and the current emphasis by APDN is on security products, such as those that defend the military's supply chain against counterfeits.  This is an area where "anticounterfeiting" and security and safety overlap. The new marketing campaign focuses on security and safety -- the military, banks and other high value areas, and of course cash in transit protection and legal convictions.

SigNature DNA is a botanical mark used to authenticate products in a unique manner that essentially cannot be copied, and provide a forensic chain of evidence that can be used to prosecute perpetrators.

As a result of this marketing campaign, the Company has issued a number of interesting stories about target markets including:

"Senate hearings shocker: one million fake electronics in U.S. military systems. DNA marking is the clear solution."

Applied is currently contracted with an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense, on a pilot of a solution for the counterfeit microchip crisis that the Senate is exposing. This article included a very interesting quote from Senator John McCain:

“The committee (Senate Armed Services Committee) uncovered over 1,800 incidents, totaling over 1 million parts, of counterfeit electronic parts in the defense supply chain. That is an astounding number. And it begs the question: if one million counterfeit parts were caught in the supply chain, how many were not?”  (ABS News)

Recent investigations by the US Senate Armed Services Committee have found Chinese counterfeit parts in military equipment. The US Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing on Tuesday on the issue of counterfeit electronic components found in US military hardware found in electronic systems of helicopters and airplanes.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Carl Levin says the Committee asked several large US defense contractors to identify cases of suspected counterfeit parts. The companies came back with a list of 18-hundred cases, covering one-million individual parts. Here is a video report titled, "Chinese Counterfeit Parts Found in US Military Hardware."

"Counterfeit Microchips and National Security: An Open Letter to the Electronics Industry"

Here the Senate  Armed Services Committee hearings addressed the wave of counterfeit microchips and other electronic components that have inundated supply chains, including those of the U.S. military. APDN stated in their Blog:

"Literally millions of counterfeit parts (are) now infecting U.S. military weapons  systems, according  to testimony. Witnesses are naming names, and pinpointing specific weapons systems. Some companies are taking it squarely on the chin. The problem goes beyond financial loss, which, because  it is sometimes difficult to quantify, is certainly much greater than we would like to admit. It goes beyond the reputational  damage that is already occurring. It is a straight-out question of national security. Stated bluntly, we are being challenged  to stand up to do our part to protect our country’s fighting forces."

As the country moves into Presidential debates and politics in 2012, look for more focus on these issues as effective and cost saving solutions for National Defense is obviously a topic of much interest right now.

This company is a perfect fit for the military.
They are currently working with the military on a pilot project.
I expect to see more use of their technology in the military supply
    chain.
