Report from the Roskamp meeting in Sarasota, Florida

Game, Set, Match – It’s Star Scientific for the Win…

A stock for the age’s ― Maybe! Likely!

    A Buy alert!

Yesterday I attended a meeting in Sarasota, Florida at the famed Roskamp Institute attended by about 100 scientists, money managers, institutional investors and a bevy of assorted and savvy interested parties that ran the gamut from the wife of a governor to famous people in the public dominion. The meeting lasted about four hours and we were the recipients of a comprehensive recap and update of the science surrounding the "astonishing" compound RCP-006. The scientific part of the presentation included scientists from the Roskamp Institute and Johns Hopkins University, and they addressed their breakthrough research that is underway at the Institute, Johns Hopkins University, The Flint Study and a newly announced 500 person study in Pisa, Italy.

As the meeting was winding up and we were walking out of the conference room all hell was going on in the stock market and shares of Star Scientific were getting bombarded by selling. In just 40 minuets (CIGX) fell from $5.14 to $4.03 and closed at $4.22 off $0.99 for the day. Hence my “buy alert”… the gods of the market gave us another freebie entry point.

Now let’s get to the meat of some of the landmark news that was communicated at the meeting:

First and foremost was the explanation from Michael J. Mullan MD PHD* that was worth the cost of the trip as far as I was concerned. The comments referencing the beta-amyloid that caused the plaque in the brain that causes Alzheimer’s disease were informative, thorough and presented in Dr. Mullan’s easy and clear manner,  to wit; hang with the science – this is the short version, minus all the charts that makes explaining the science even more understandable.

There are 2 types of NF-kB – one that regulates cellular function (that’s a good thing) and one that can go cockeyed and that causes the brain to create fewer (or block formation) of “bace” cells that control inflammation and subsequently the formation of beta-amyloid, that causes the plaque, that causes Alzheimers.

Hence; less inflammation, less accumulation of beta-amyloid, less plaque, less Alzheimers.

Crucially, (RCP-006)  dramatically reduces inflammation therefore creating less beta-amyloid, and therefore less Alzheimer’s, a scourge of pain and money that the Alzheimer’s Association says will cost the USA $20 trillion over the next 40-years.

More from Dr. Mullan; He showed videos that showed “Alzheimer’ed’” up rats that began to not only remember again, but were also able to add new critical information to the equation and change their actions to even improve their lot. That’s impossible for a “dementeted” rat. There was a split screen video running with a rat that was impaired with the diseased for comparison. Dr. Mullan called the research, “Profound!” He went on to also say that CRP levels also fell 50% in the animals indicating less inflammation. Dr. Mullan said this research is now being readied for important peer review.

In addition; Dr. Mullan said that there are NO approved amyloid reducing drugs. He said that the FDA would consider one the “Holy Grail” of treatment.

Dr. Mullan also gave an immensely telling answer to a question. His answer rang like a sledgehammer on an anvil. The question was, “Would you give a loved one or a close relative (RCP-006) if they were showing signs of Alzheimer’s?  He paused and said, Yes!

    * Dr. Mullan’s degrees include LMSSA (Medicine); MRCP (Psychiatry); and PHD. (Molecular Genetics) from the University of London, England). Dr. Mullan is the biomedical researcher who more than a decade ago along with Associate Director at Roskamp Dr. Fiona Crawford was a key member of a pioneering team of scientists who made a momentous finding: that the genetic cause of Alzheimer’s disease and its onset was directly related to the accumulation of a protein called ßeta-amyloid which makes up the telltale plaque that builds up in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s.

Another communiqué that wowed the attendees… Star Scientific  CEO Jonnie Williams introduced the First Lady of Virginia, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell’s wife Maureen, and in a brief talk she offered the Governors mansion for the “launch” of Anatabloc that Star is now packaging and readying to go to market. (Likely - by the end of the month, I hear.) Williams called the coming “event” an historic occasion.” Star Scientific’s home base is in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Anatabloc is the increased dosage (3X) preparation of the focused compound (RCP-006)  that’s used in the studies at Roskamp, Johns Hopkins and The Flint Study.

Another item of note mentioned: About 100,000 people have now taken (RCP-006) compounds.

And CigRx, the (RCP-006)  compound that reduces the urge to smoke, has over 22,000 “friends” on Facebook… up from about 5,000 a month ago… on the way to go viral…

Two prominent Johns Hopkins University researchers also presented, renowned endocrinologist Dr. Paul Ladenson and internationally known Dr. Patrizo Caturegli. They seemed like they were about ready to jump thru their very reserved demeanor when they spoke to their research on (RCP-006)  in thyroiditis etc… Roskamp is doing research using (RCP-006) on gastroenterology, rheumatology, cancer, auto immune diseases (lupus), cardio – atherogenesis (the developmental process of atheromatous plaques in arteries) and other conditions too.

Significantly, Dr. Ladenson added that there was no known compound that stops thryoiditis except (RCP-006).

I was told that Dr. Ladenson used the term, “astonishing” when he spoke recently about (RCP-006). Supposedly, his wife says that “astonishing” is a word he doesn’t use.

Final speaker at the conference was famed science author and economist Patrick Cox of Breakthrough Technologies who spoke eloquently about what (RCP-006) will do for mankind. Patrick didn't mince any words and I believe that the scientists in attendance were "all in" after hearing the earlier speakers. He said that the impact of this compound will be "unfathomable” to society at large. He said the reduction of NF-kB will increase the average lifespan significantly with attendant impact on insurance, Social Security and Medicare. If you've read any of his work on Star Scientific he sees the entire general population of our planet consuming this nutritional supplement. He may well be right.

Also in attendance at the meeting were several important fund managers who have heard the story, but have yet to invest in Star Scientifics shares. They manage billions of dollars. After yesterday's meeting, that basically only centered on the use of the compound (RCP-006)  for medically related conditions, I believe, from my conversations with them that they will be new buyers.

Let's also note that the institutional holders in (CIGX) are up to 96 from about 85 from the last reporting period.

This whole story surrounding (CIGX) gets better by the day, it's almost unreal. While the stock is well up from its long 2010 trading range with what's going on I think most stockholders think that the share price should be much higher. Naturally, yesterday’s opportunistic retreat presents us with an occasion to buy more or begin new positions.

If you missed my previous reports more specific in detail and scope to each of the Star’s themes, or to receive my Best Ideas for 2011 send a request to:

Disclaimer; I bought shares of Star Scientific in the open market.
