  • Contango Oil And Gas A Natural Recipe For Profits 2 comments
    Feb 14, 2010 12:21 AM | about stocks: MCF
Many may fear small caps for their lower levels of capital and higher assumed risks

however what many may miss is a well run small cap may offer much greater profit

potential with no increased risk. My favorite small cap currently is Contango Oil And

Gas with a fat 25% gross margin and only seven employees it is one of the lowest

cost producers of oil and natural gas its CEO Ken Peak even mentions this as one of

the few advantages you can have in this industry. Contango has an incredible

balance sheet with plenty of cash and little if any debt. On top of having strong FCF

and even strong profitability it is trading at only about 14 times forward earnings

which in my opinion is a complete steal.

What Is your opinion? Let me know in the comments below.

I have several similar small cap investments in gas and oil, however due the Major energy players competition I am getting ready to close positions soon due to China and the HUGE Mongolia energy boom ready to take off.
I do not beleive that small cap energy stock is a good long shot in the current market.
I appreciate your views on China and Mongolia investment potential.

Author’s reply » There are also large discoveries in Uganda and several other regions of Africa. I personally feel that china is overhyped there government is supporting much of the expansion. Throw in questionable accounting practices and I will personally steer clear. The thing about Mongolia is it isn't particularly developed so an energy boom to them would barely move the needle worldwide. However if you could get into a smaller company involved with this boom early on it could be quite profitable.

Also with a renewed interest in possibly using natural gas as a bridge fuel it could be advantageous to give a look to some of the Natural gas producers especially smaller ones.
