On our most recent radio broadcast, David Mazza, Head of ETF Investment Strategy for State Street Global Advisors, joined us to talk SPDR ETFs. With State Street recently filing for six new actively managed ETFs, which will expand upon their current offering of three actively managed ETFs, we discussed whether active management is the next big growth opportunity for the ETF industry. We also discussed the upcoming 20-year anniversary of the launch of the first ETF - the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (ticker SPY) - and the tremendous growth of the ETF market since that time. Finally, David offered some thoughts on 2012 ETF investor fund flows, including why fixed income ETFs led the way at a time when global equity markets approached 20% returns, and where ETF investors might be looking in 2013.

In our weekly market update, we presented our most likely outcomes for the financial markets in 2013 and debated the potential impact of the current US debt ceiling standoff. We also discussed whether a bubble exists in bonds and how to prepare your portfolio should interest rates begin to rise. Lastly, in our ETF spotlight segment, we delved into a global real estate ETF, the SPDR Dow Jones Global Real Estate ETF (ticker RWO), that could offer diversification benefits to your investment portfolio.
