  • BBRY Is Going To Pull A TSLA After Next Earnings Call 0 comments
    May 13, 2013 9:23 AM | about stocks: BBRY

The BlackBerry 10 OS is a reboot for their OS. The BB10 has some unique multitasking features, and a consolidated messaging hub.

The decision of the Blackberry team to include the Android runtime allowing users to side load and run Android applications gave BB10 access to most application at launch.

BBRY is the only company that is committed to making premium smartphones with QWERTY keyboards. And a lot of the existing customer base who have been sticking with Blackberry because of the keyboard will switch to the Q10 because of the iconic BBRY QWERTY keyboard.

BBRY has 76 million customers a lot many of who are potential BB10 customers. This number pales in comparison to the number of iOS and Android customers. But on the other hand, a quick look at

    developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html

tells us that about 35% of the screensize configurations for android cellphones are ldpi / mdpi / tvdpi. These phones are low cost phones with extremely low margins. So manufacturers are not pretty much skimming profits from the sale of these cellphones (if any). Another 37.8% have hdpi screens which were considered premium about 3 years back.

Apple on the other hand with iOS, generates around 60% of the profits with only around 20% of total smartphone shipments.

At this point BBRY needs to follow on the footsteps of AAPL.

Blackberry has made the right decision of not releasing budget BB10 phones in 2013.The Z10 and Q10 are BB10 phones that will capture the attention of different customers without confusing them.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, but may initiate a long position in BBRY over the next 72 hours.
