  • Axion Power First Quarter 2012 Conference Call Questions Organizer 11 comments
    Apr 27, 2012 1:44 PM | about stocks: AXPW

The 1st Quarter 2012 Conference Call will be held sometime in mid-May.2012. We need to begin organizing ourselves now with intelligent questions for the conference call.

Personally I would like to see people post no more than three questions as their top priority questions for TG. I also think it would be the most helpful to Axion and our interests to pose broad open-ended questions that TG can expand on to the degree he is comfortable divulging information. As an example "What can you tell us about ongoing R&D programs?" Another example would be "What can you tell us about feedback from auto oems on their testing to date."

Feel free to post and discuss questions right up to the conference call. As in previous conference calls I will attempt to organize questions by topic and provide a pdf document you can download as a reference for the conference call. There will be no attempt to assign questions to individuals for the CC. Keep the questions by topic handy and fire away at your highest priority questions after listening to questions asked and answered ahead of you.

The last conference call went well. Let's do it again for the Q1 2012 Conference call.

    Disclosure: I am long OTCQB:AXPW.

Did the $475K total purchase order from Norfolk Southern include any service contract? If not, will there be any service/maintenance relationship that could produce ancillary revenue or will NSC be servicing the batteries themselves?

When does Axion anticipate a NSC purchase order for the over-the-rail hybrid locomotive?

additionally, what timeframe do you expect for testing/evaluation and decision-making on the NS999 before an order for additional batteries for more conversions would be made..

Bang,, thanks for pulling it together once again ,it is appreciated.

I think one of the questions should be,, When will NS be installing the road locomotive? This may be too direct,, how about ,,,Do you expect any long haul operations in rail for PBC in the next month or two? three or four?
Anyone have an idea on how to ask, without getting to specific?

Author’s reply » I think the less specific the question the easier it will be for TG to tell you what he can without either putting words in NS's mouth or disclosing information he is not free to discuss. Perhaps you could try "What can you tell us about on-going activity and future plans for the over-the-road locomotive program?" Bear in mind he might address this in his prepared remarks.

I'm thinking it might be more productive to ask TG for a rough breakout of expected revenue streams to give a picture of "product mix". Of the ~$32+ million of revenues implied by 300% plus expected revenue growth mentioned in the last cc, how much is expected in toll contract revenue, in engineering/consulting services, in State/federal/industry assoc. grants, in PbC sales.

Also, what is the outlook for general administrative and marketing expense?

BW, thanks for setting up the CC question organizer blog again.

Question. Would Axion publish more technical info on PbC battery performance? Does the battery self discharge slowly, quickly, hardly at all?

That is a very good question.
Especially it is very interesting if the self discharge is about the same as super-capacitors or less or much less.

A question posted before by D-inv:
"Johnson Controls, Inc. recently announced a significant capital investment program to comply with new EPA regulations regarding lead. Do the recently announced lead regulations also impact Axion's battery production activities and capacity? Will Axion need to make more investments to maintain/achieve compliance with EPA regulations or end battery production?"

Lafferty: I believe TG addressed that in the most recent CC; he said (paraphrasing) that Axion was within all EPA guidelines.

JCI is building not only a new AGM battery plant, but also a new recycling plant. EPA is likely all over them with conforming to the new regs. As you know, from various articles I have posted in the APCs, Exide is getting hammered by the EPA.

What I did find curious when I toured the Axion LA plant was that there were skids of lead bars laying around in the open air.

Bang: Expecting this blog to fill up as we near the May 15 CC. I haven't been into your Google Axion webpage recently. But, do you have a running list of who is testing the PbC, and what stage the testings are in?

I'd like to hear some updates on Envision Solar, as well as if there are other businesses or government agencies testing the PbC. There must be 20 or so we don't know about.

Question. Has Axion sold any PbC electrodes to others for use in battery assembly?
