  • Short sellers have been steadily building up positions in AIG since early January 2 comments

    The US Treasury recently announced that it would sell shares in AIG for $30.

    Since it peaked in early January, AIG's share price has steadily made its way towards that $30 level.  Over the same time period, shares borrowed (and shorted) has increased from 16 million shares to 28 million shares.

    It's still in the initial stages between Treasury and unnamed investors, but investors have evidently given interest that they'd be willing to purchase X million shares at $30.
