In early January, 2013, the U.S. Mint suspended sales of silver American Eagle coins, due to high demand.
On Tuesday, January 29, 2013, the U.S. Mint continued sales, reporting over 7 million ounces of silver American Eagles sold so far in January, 2013. This breaks the previous record of 6,422,000 ounces in January, 2011.
