I think this is a great list. I own the following from the list:

    STD
    SI
    EONGY
    TEF
    AZN
    BBL
    NVS
    UN
    TOT
    VOD

I am not so sure about investing in ESLT and NOK. I looked at them both hard. Nokia doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Their market is fast falling. In the smartphone business to Apple, Motorola, Samsung, LG, RIM, HTC and in the cheap phone business to Samsung, and numerous other players in China and India.

ESLT appears cyclical at best. The long-term story isn't clear to me. The same appears to be true for PHG as well. Where will it from here? Can they increase their sales by 5% year-on-year and earnings at rate of 10% for the next 4-5 years? It doesn't appear so.

I also own or am interested in the following stocks:
    BASF
    FTE
    NGG
    SDRL
    STO
    RDS
    NSRGY

Of course, I realize that these stocks may not all be on sale right now but they might be worth further due diligence. I am looking at most of these stocks from a total return perspective - dividend yields of 3-6% and price appreciation of 2-10% compounded for next 5 years.

    Author’s reply » guraaf,

Thank you for comment and your list.
FTE, NGG and STO are in my watch list but not top "buy" priorities now.
SDRL: well insurance & ship companies like Bermuda but SDRL dividend history is a bit short for me (2 years) and Bermuda is a bit far from Europe.
Are NSRGY and BASF stock still around in US?
    What is RDS?

NOK is strong historically in equipment behind phones and Nokia Siemens Networks is bond for European communications. Nokia also provides digital map information for many other mobil players and this biz should grow. BTW I own Siemens (SI), they recently adopted good dividend policy.

ESLT makes important component of advanced warware and as many military stocks has top yield in last 10+ years. They froze div in 2009 but I think it is smart now for companies to keep more cash. ESLT had couple big special dividends and I expect they will pay special when economy stabilize.

Well, I have many goodies from Philips Electronics and so I look for PHG. They organically grew for decades and I hope will continue to make nice things.

    Sincerely
    SDS

Yes, I bought Nestle and BASF recently (within the last 4 weeks) on the pink sheets (OTC). RDS is Royal Dutch Shell. I decided to take a risky bet with SeaDrill.

Instead of ESLT, I decided to go for LMT and RTN. The yields were similar and these two are much bigger and exporting some technology to other countries now that the US wants to cut down on defense spending.

I like Siemens now that some of their accounting issues are behind them. BTW - I also like ABB from Switzerland.

    Author’s reply » Barry32,
I'm looking outside US for diversification and I have no clue on exchange ratios because I'm watching ADRs and their prices should be adjusted to "original" stock by arbitragers. I don't worry about currency risk: I expect to hold a stock about 10 years so all currency fluctuations should be zero out in a long run. I have few non-US stocks and got slightly "random" dividends in US$ (e.g. from BMO) because of exchange ratio but I do not care. A company should have a good dividend policy in their domestic currency.

Thank you. I guess that a base for your living expenses in dollars is easier. I currently have sterling (UK) and euro Income and assets.
I will diversify further into USA and believe that the D-G story stacks up. So I just wondered if anyone had crossed this particular bridge before me. B

Solid list. Can't argue with it considering I've owned 7 of them and currently own AZN, NOK, STD, and TEF. Right now European stocks get no respect but eventually they will come back.
