Catalonia, a relatively rich region in Spain, has long complained about shouldering the burden for its less rich Spanish provincial counterparts. Now, with much of Spain mired in a recession and with the European sovereign debt crisis raging on, an increasing amount of Catalans seek to separate from Spain. Recently, hundreds of thousands of Catalonians demonstrated on the streets demanding an independent nation. Now, almost two-thirds of Catalonia's local parliament has been handed to parties that want a referendum on secession.
I would hate to be Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy right now.
