Vuzix recently announced that it will be showcasing its award-winning M100 smart glasses during the upcoming AT&T Developer Summit Hackathon. The event will take place on January 6, 2014, at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event is considered to be the hackathon of the year for the AT&T Developer Program, and this year the focus is on wearable technologies. Participants will be able to choose between a Wearables Track and an AT&T API Track. Finalists will be featured on stage in live fast pitches with executives during the event's keynote. Competitors will also have the ability to compete in accelerator challenges, which will offer prizes ranging from a Vuzix M100 to prizes up to $10,000 for eligible teams.

The AT&T Summit Hackathon coincides with Vuzix' entry into the market with its M100 smart glasses. The wearable computer contains a virtual display with integrated camera and powerful processing engine that runs the Android® OS. The glasses can wirelessly connect to smartphones and other compatible devices via Bluetooth or WiFi.

Designed to run standalone or connected to the Internet, the Vuzix M100 works in harmony with smartphones to open a plethora of applications. These include enterprise applications where the M100 can play a practical role in a wide variety of situations, ranging from warehousing and airports to hospitals and more.

Vuzix began shipments of M100 units to developers and enterprise customers earlier this month. As a sponsor of the event, Vuzix will provide two of its M100 smart glasses as main prizes and will be promoted on various social media platforms surrounding the event.

"As one of the first commercially available smart glasses on the market, we are pleased that AT&T has invited us to participate as a sponsor for this year's developer summit," remarked Paul Travers, Vuzix's CEO. "Our M100 smart glasses have been designed and packaged to enable application development to solve real world problems, and as such, we are thrilled to be working with AT&T Summit to bring visibility to this award-winning product."
