  • Probes Into ETFs Possible Insider Trading 0 comments
Feb 11, 2011 7:12 AM | about stocks: TRAD, TRDGF

According to the report by Financial Times the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating whether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are being used to hide insider trading. The report said an ETF is one possible way of maximizing gains in a single stock while camouflaging trading patterns as a trader with inside information about a stock could go for buying an ETF that includes that stock and short the other stocks in the ETF. It has been reported that the U.S. regulators are also investigating whether traders are using swaps to mask insider trading patterns.
