The responsibilities of the CEO include protecting the value of the entire company, not just the efficiency and supply chain logistics, or maintaining the mantra of high quality and innovation of products.

The spectacular loss of money associated with Tim Cook's and Peter Oppenheimer's recent lack of leadership for investors, from large funds to small retail investment by individuals, can really only be explained by an equal spectacular arrogance to the responsibility of not losing money for the total value of the company. Earnings per share and total revenue aside - the CEO and CFO of a company this size need either to understand how to protect the entire company domain, or appoint people who can prevent unfair share price market devaluation -- by deploying standard financial instruments in real time or long-term.

Apple executives could have prevented this loss by understanding some of the most basic notions and risks of stock market valuations, and taken preventive or immediate actions to protect the company.

    Disclosure: I am long AAPL.
