  • Importance Of Title And The Ability To De-Rank Authors For My Personal Record 0 comments

I recently started to allocate more time reading SA. The first filter for articles are the topic areas I'm interested. The next decision point is the title: If the title is interesting I will click it, and if the title is unclear or sounded uninteresting I would skip it. This has nothing to do with the quality of the article. I find this disturbing. Readership is predicated on the author's ability to write an interesting title.

I understand that I can "follow" authors that I like. But I would not know to skip the authors who are good in creating titles but cannot construct a meaningful argument. I would still get suckered into reading junk with great titles.

So I propose that the readers be given an opposite of "follow" for authors who cannot deliver. If that is indicated to the SA e-mail, I would think twice before opening articles from these authors and be disappointed again.

This should be a private statistic for just the reader. I have not intention to share this info to the authors or other readers. My goal is to be advised to think twice before clicking on an article by an author I don't appreciate.

The good authors will gather a large following. The junk writers should not be able to "cheat" by writing terrific titles.
