  • HairDX Genetic Test A Modern Way To Diagnose Hair Loss 0 comments
    May 20, 2013 5:32 AM

Hair loss is inevitable, no matter who we are and no matter where we are. That's why it generates a big concern among people of different culture, nationality and sexual orientation.

There are various triggering factors or causes of hair loss, such as hormonal changes, heredity, ailments, unhealthy lifestyle, poor nutrition, bad habits, stress and the list can go on and on. It is important to diagnose balding in its early stages so that a proper hair loss treatment can help slow down or hinder its progression. Hence, a hair loss test should be employed in order to help find the root cause of the problem.

Today, a new genetic test is now available to predict the risk of hair loss or thinning hair. The HairDX is a genetic test for diagnosing androgenic alopecia or pattern baldness. Through the HairDX, an individual will know if he or she is at risk of this condition.

How This Test Can Be Useful

Hair loss is detected visually. Oftentimes by the time we visually notice that our hair is falling off, almost 50 percent of the hair is already gone. With this, it is very important to predict the hair loss as early as possible to ensure that proper treatment is underway to prevent it from worsening.

How HairDX Genetic Test Is Done

The HairDX test kit can be obtained through a physician's office. The test makes use of an easy cheek swab to determine the genetic risk of developing hair loss. It is performed under a doctor's supervision and the results are reviewed within 3 weeks by a hair restoration doctor. He or she who will help the patient interpret the results and weigh in possible preventive measures to stop hair loss.

    HairDX Test for Men

The HairDX genetic test for men helps predict male pattern baldness. A positive test would mean that a person is having a high risk of hair loss.

    • Men who are tested negative have 85 percent probability of not succumbing to baldness by age 40. On the other hand, men who are tested positive have a 60 percent probability of going bald by age 40.

    HairDX Test for Women

The HairDX test for women helps predict the risk of thinning hair or female pattern baldness. After this test, a CAG (the genetic code for amino acid glutamine) repeat score is given for the individual.

    • A smaller CAG score indicates a high risk of hair loss while a greater CAG score indicates low risk of hair loss.

Although HairDX genetic test is not 100 percent definite in terms of accuracy, it can be helpful in hair loss prevention. Why? People who are concerned about possible hair loss can use the test results to start making decisions and work on effective course of treatments. After all, as what we always say, an ounce of prevention is better than a ton of cure.
