Author’s reply » Thanks. It is easier to think independently when the only neighbors are bald eagles, otters, trout, black bear, deer, and moose. Even if we wanted to follow the crowd, there is no crowd to follow.

Wow great location! I bet it gets really peaceful during winter times! ..And it is during those peaceful moments when the mind produces the best ideas!

Author’s reply » Yep. Some of the best thinking comes after a few hours of snow shoeing or cross country skiing, getting back to the office with the fire blazing and a frozen lake outside.

Chris, you obviously like to have a quiet place to develop the best ideas and tune off the market "noise". How do you tune off the market noise that comes from your PC? just turn it off?

Author’s reply » Good question. I focus on the market prices only 1-2 hours per day. Far more frequently, I use price alerts that come to my attention only after a material move (2-5 percent depending upon the situation). I am selective about what I read online, trying to focus the vast majority of my attention on primary sources and even then trying to focus on very specific companies and opportunities.
