Next month, I am competing in the Reebok Spartan Race in Vermont. This will be my second this year. If you're up for a challenge, I would look forward to seeing you in Killington. You can sign up here.

The day after Spartan, I am competing in the Saddleback Mountain Trail Run. If you want to unwind with me after Vermont, it is an 8,000 feet net vertical race in beautiful Rangeley, Maine. You can sign up here.

I used to love running. Had a 5'40" mile a few years ago. Tore some ligaments (I am guessing) on the outside of my ankle during Ph.D. Now I can't really run. Be careful to avoid ankle injuries...

I just tore my calf muscle in a fall recently, but the physical therapist said I was okay yesterday, so am competing in a race Saturday. If that goes well and with a month of training, I hope to be okay for VT.

Is it stressful on the body? And how do you go about training for the spartan races?

Damn, now I'm feeling REALLY old.

Look for the garden at The Homestead on Route 4 as you are passing thru Woodstock, VT., headed for Killington. It's on the right. If you see a hat, stop. That would be me under the hat. (Oh, silly me....you'll be going direct to Killington via the Rangeley Capital helicopter....my bad)

Seriously, take care of yourself with as much exercise as you can. It will pay off in the long run. Long run...get it.....grin

Best of running (I don't believe in luck),

Vermont wins for fall scenery, good snow, and maple syrup. Maine wins for woods to hide in, less people per square miles, rocky shores, and attitude. And bugs.

Just finished Transrockies in Colorado. Wish I lived closer we could have some fun on the trails. Four tough mudders under my belt in previous years but this year was the year of the stage race.

Good luck with that Chris. My incline trainer needs a new console, and though its warranty is up, the manufacturer is sending a replacement at what must be close to cost.
