Chris: Have you looked into Alibaba to have an opinion about their expected IPO? I would think that this will be a material portion of your IPO short position this year, unless you elected to dial back at the time of their offering.

I've met Mr. Ma, and he's an unbelievably charming fellow. I think Alibaba has tremendous potential, but as an investor, I need the right price.

As Howard Marks said, "There's no such thing as a bad investment, just a bad price."

Once the tech IPOs all deflate, Alibaba is a hands down buy for generations to come. But not at this absurd valuation they are all throwing around. No offense to Jack Ma.

Sears is planning on spinning-off Lands End. A registration statement for LE stock was filed recently. I expect that Lands End will thrive once it is liberated from Sears and can make make its own decisions.

Author’s reply » What "broken" IPOs are worth owning? Is there a percentage decline beneath the IPO price or other attributes that make this a worthwhile hunting ground? My theory is that growth/story investors do not make for fine value investors and once a security is off track, there is a good possibility that it could be a bargain.
