Now we are getting reports that we might have an extra 8 days to muddle around in budget purgatory - as revenues were up and and we collected more tax dollars than anticipated. Perhaps we have till August 10... too bad. 

It was just starting to get really interesting

E*Trade (ETFC) looks like an interesting play here... I'm going to try and dig into their financials and see what there is to discover. These guys had a great business model, but they made the same mistake as Bear Stearns - they went from being the broker and tried to be the bank. At least they are still running on their own power. Somehow, somewhere, there is a play here. I'll report back when I have something.

One thing did get done today - Football! Thank heavens for this... the whole country breathed a collective sigh of relief today... and were I the President (of the US) I would have pushed for this behind the scenes a lot harder. The whole country is going to be happier now that football is back, and a rising tide lifts all boats - I bet he gets a small ratings boost just from people being happier about football.

Yields rising on the 10 and 30 year treasuries... the shorts are working here.
