Exact Sciences’ Executives, Colon Cancer Challenge Leaders to Ring Nasdaq Opening Bell
Officials will ring bell in honor of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
MADISON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Exact Sciences Corp. (Nasdaq: EXAS) today announced that Kevin T. Conroy, the companys president and chief executive, and the companys management team will ring the NASDAQ Stock Market Opening Bell on Tuesday, March 20.
Thomas A. Weber, M.D., founder and president of the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation, and Antoine Dove, its national spokesman and former Biggest Loser contestant, will join the Exact Sciences' (EXAS) executives. They will ring the opening bell in honor of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed each year in March.
Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths, according to the American Cancer Society. Almost 150,000 new cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed and approximately 50,000 people die from the disease every year.
We are proud to be a partner of the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation as we promote regular screening for the disease during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Mr. Conroy said. Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, but it must be caught early. Awareness programs like those run by the foundation and improvements in screening methods like those Exact is advancing are both important tools in reducing colorectal cancer mortality.
Too often in my practice, I have seen the devastating consequences to patients and their families of failing to get screened properly for colorectal cancer, Dr. Weber said. Thats why I founded the foundation: to challenge people to get the facts about colorectal cancer, talk to their family and doctor about the disease and, most important, to get screened. We are pleased to commemorate Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month with Exact Sciences and join them in offering our challenge to get screened.
The ceremony, which is being held at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York, will begin at 9:15 a.m. EST and culminate with the ringing of the Opening Bell at 9:30 a.m. Before ringing the bell, Mr. Conroy will make brief remarks about the company and its commitment to the early detection of colorectal cancer.
