Leading Pasta Company Recognized for Innovative Sales and Operations Planning Initiative

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Logility, Inc., a leading supplier of collaborative solutions to optimize the supply chain, is proud to announce American Italian Pasta Company (AIPC), the largest producer of dry pasta in North America, has been named one of Manufacturing Executives 2012 Manufacturing Leadership 100 recipients. American Italian Pasta Companys winning project in the Operational Excellence category highlights the companys success in implementing a Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process to improve its ability to forecast demand, increase production efficiency, and manage inventory for quick customer response and higher service levels.

The Manufacturing Leadership 100 Awards (ML100), presented by Manufacturing Executive and in their eighth year, honor manufacturing companies and individual manufacturing leaders who help shape the future of global manufacturing. The ML100 judges evaluated nominations on the following four criteria: process impact, business impact, strategic impact, and use of technology. In addition, the judges based their selection on projects which have helped set each company apart from the competition, delivered a clear and compelling return on investment, and have rethought and reengineered how they source, produce, and deliver products to customers in dynamic global markets.

American Italian Pasta Company (AITP.PK) is the largest producer of dry pasta in North America with branded products such as Anthonys, Luxury Brand, Meullers, Pennsylvania Dutch, Golden Grain Mission, Heartland, and more. Additionally, AIPC produces pasta products for some of the largest food retailers in the world through its private label business and to the food service industry including restaurants, schools, business, and industry establishments. American Italian Pasta Company needed to improve its processes in support of the companys growth, better manage capacity constraints, and improve planning to manage the volatility of commodities such as durum wheat and eggs. Through the use of Logility Voyager Solutions", the company set out to improve its forecast, strategically manage promotions, and improve collaboration between sales and manufacturing.

As the improved S&OP initiative kicked off, the AIPC team began to realize immediate benefits. Forecast accuracy jumped from 58% to 75%. Communication breakdowns evolved into collaboration between operations and sales. The sales, planning and manufacturing teams can now manage variability through the supply chain more efficiently leading to improved asset utilization, service levels, and inventory turns.

We are proud of the success American Italian Pasta Company has achieved through its use of Logility Voyager Solutions and are honored to be a partner in their achievements, said Mike Edenfield, president and CEO, Logility. American Italian Pasta Company recognized that with growth comes new supply chain challenges and the company took the initiative to build a stronger, more collaborative supply chain to ensure profitable growth. We congratulate the AIPC team for its impressive achievements and selection to receive this prestigious recognition.

American Italian Pasta Company, along with Logility customers Stanley Black & Decker and CooperVision will be honored and presented with their awards at the Awards Gala held at the Manufacturing Leadership Summit on May 2, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL.
