Company Awards Nearly $300,000 in Grants
Program Surpasses $1 Million in Giving Since 2008

LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc . (NASDAQ: CBST) today announced that it has awarded nearly $300,000 in grants this year to benefit 16 organizations with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs in Massachusetts. These grants reflect the companys ongoing commitment to STEM education, with an emphasis on supporting programs for underserved middle- and high-school students in Massachusetts. As Cubist celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, it also marks the fifth year of its philanthropic program focused on supporting nonprofit organizations with STEM education initiatives. Since 2008, Cubist has awarded more than $1 million to STEM programs.

Cubist has had a rich scientific heritage throughout our 20 years as a company and we continue to build on that foundation in our relentless pursuit of breakthrough products that address unmet needs in acute care. Our industrys ability to translate science into new hope for patients hinges on our ability to prepare the next generation of leaders in the field, said Michael Bonney, President and CEO of Cubist. Cubist is committed to supporting organizations like those we fund, which are inspiring young minds to pursue careers in STEM fields as well as providing ways for teachers to incorporate innovative techniques in their classrooms. Our employees play an important role in our efforts, volunteering their time to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities and a greater understanding of the various career paths and possibilities in their future.

In addition to its philanthropic grants, for the past three years Cubist has also helped to recognize innovative science teachers across New England. Through a partnership with the New England Patriots Radio Network and 98.5 The Sports Hub, Cubist has presented its Science Education Leadership Award. In February, Cubist awarded $5,000 to the science department of this years winner, Sean Muller of Merrimack High School.

Beyond financial support, Cubist encourages its employees to volunteer with STEM organizations. Cubist hosts science classroom visits where students engage in hands-on learning and career exploration. Employees are also active in volunteering with a variety of other community-based organizations.
