KVH Receives $2.8M U.S. Army Contract for Gunners Displays With Initial $1.3M Order
MIDDLETOWN, R.I., June 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KVH Industries, Inc. (KVHI) announced today that it received an initial $1.3 million order as part of a 5-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to supply its TACNAV® Universal Multilingual Display (UMD) to the U.S. Army for use as the Gunners Display on the M119 Howitzer. Shipments will begin in the second half of 2012. The 5-year IDIQ contract has a potential value of $2.8 million.
The M119A2 105mm Howitzer is a lightweight towed weapon that provides indirect fire support to light, airborne, and air assault forces. It provides destructive, suppressive, and protective indirect and direct field artillery fires in support of combined arms operations. The M119 Howitzer has a range of up to 19,500 meters, so highly accurate reference information is critical when positioning the weapon. A display that is easy to read in all weather conditions, like KVH's TACNAV UMD, allows these operators to contribute to mission success by executing their orders in a safe and timely fashion.
"The KVH TACNAV UMD provides instantaneous information to the gunner in a format that is very easy to see and understand," explains Bill Houtz, KVH's military sales manager. "This incredibly durable display was designed to perform in all weather conditions, from bright sunlight to blackout conditions where night vision is typically used. Easy-to-read position information from the M119 Howitzer's fire control system will be available to gunners at all times via the TACNAV UMD, ensuring that they can carry out their fire missions safely and efficiently. We are pleased to support the U.S. Army with a rugged and affordable display that will have an immediate, positive effect on a wide range of operations."
KVH's TACNAV UMD offers an active dot-matrix design, delivering unparalleled flexibility. With its versatility and affordability, the TACNAV UMD is ideal for any military platform requiring a durable, user-friendly interface. It is easy to read in all weather conditions, from bright sunlight to complete darkness.
The TACNAV UMD was developed as an integral component for TACNAV, the world's most widely used tactical navigation system with over 13,000 systems fielded by U.S. and allied forces around the globe. Soldiers in the U.S. Army will recognize this display from its use on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle M2A2 ODS, SOCOM HMMWVs, and many other military vehicles.
