GE Celebrates One Year, 100 Hires at Information Security Technology Center in Virginia
GLEN ALLEN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GE (NYSE: GE) today announced that it has delivered on its commitment to bring new jobs to the state of Virginia by adding 100 new hires at its Information Security Technology Center in Glen Allen north of Richmond. The Center, which houses high-tech teams specializing in cyber security, as well as network design, architecture, data management, and application development, will continue to grow to 200 employees over the next few years.
We are excited to celebrate our one year anniversary and 100th hire at GEs Information Security Technology Center, said Charlene Begley, President and CEO of GE Home & Business Solutions and Senior Vice President and CIO for GE. When we opened the Center, we knew that we had a state partner ready to lead in the areas of information technology and cyber security. This community has delivered. With its wealth of technical talent and strong educational facilities, weve been able to hit the ground running, expand GEs presence in Virginia, and develop and deploy innovative technologies to make our businesses even more productive and secure.
GE has a strong presence throughout the state, with over 2,100 employees living in Salem, Charlottesville, Norfolk, Glen Allen, King George, and Richmond.
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell said, "Securing 100 good-paying jobs in one year is an exciting milestone for GE and a win for the state of Virginia. The Commonwealths experienced high-tech workforce and outstanding institutions of higher education are helping GE and other companies grow and succeed. I applaud GE for their incredible investments and rapid progress toward their goal of 200 jobs in our community and look forward to continuing to work with them to create jobs and grow our economy."
Congressman Eric Cantor said, Innovative companies like GE recognize the value of Virginias positive business environment. Over the last year, they have expanded their Glen Allen technology center and created 100 high quality jobs for the Richmond area. This is the type of job growth our economy needs and why I remain committed to making sure Virginias businesses have the confidence to invest, hire additional employees and grow even more.
Senator Walter Stosch said, "GE and Virginia have a proud partnership and a commitment to invest in the cyber security industry as a critical means to create jobs and stimulate future economic growth in the Commonwealth. I've always said that commitment by the private sector equals jobs, and today's news proves the point.
GE is placing big bets on critical sectors like IT and is adding new jobs to prove it, added Begley. In recent years, we have expanded our global IT workforce by over 1,500 experienced professionals. This announcement is just another example of GEs commitment to IT and job creation.
