Corporate Volunteers Partner with Detroit Community to Clean Up Park
More than 80 DTE Energy (DTE) volunteers and Detroit residents will participate in a cleanup day at Joe Louis Park and Johnson Recreation Center. The cleanup day, sponsored by DTE Energy, Meijer's and the Ekklesia Bldg. Corp., is part of a larger neighborhood revitalization effort involving a group of business, non-profit and city partners.
Volunteers will sweep, cut grass, weed, pick up loose trash and prune overgrown trees. The group also will clean graffiti from the exterior of the closed recreation center. The cleanup day kicks off a series of activities to enhance the neighborhood in the area bordered on the north by 8 mile road, on the South by Pembroke Street, on the east by Santa Barbara Avenue, and on the west by Wyoming Avenue.
