Siemens Awarded Contracts for Two Combined Cycle Conversions in Argentina
More Efficiency and Environmental Friendliness
ERLANGEN, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Siemens (SI) has been awarded the contracts for the combined cycle conversion of two simple cycle power plants in Argentina by (UTE), Unión Temporal de Empresas, a joint venture between Isolux Ingeniería and Inversora Andina Ibérica. The simple cycle plants, Ensenada de Barragán and Brigadier López, were originally designed and supplied by Siemens and are owned by Argentinas national energy company, ENARSA. Siemens will supply the power island equipment to close the combined cycles for these two plants, which will result in an additional 140 MW of power for Brigadier López and 280 MW additional for Ensenada de Barragán with no additional fuel consumption. The plants are scheduled to achieve commercial operation in the fall of 2014.
Ensenada de Barragán is located in Ensenada, in the province of Buenos Aires. The Siemens scope of supply for the conversion is the main equipment including one SST5-5000 steam turbine, one SGen5-1000A generator, two heat recovery steam generators, and the SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system. The Brigadier López facility is located in Santo Tomé, in the Santa Fe province. For this power generation facility Siemens will supply one SST-900 reheat steam turbine, one SGen5-100A generator, one heat recovery steam generator, and the SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system.
Siemens has been a pioneer in the electrification of Argentina. Today, over one-third of the energy consumed in Argentina is generated, transmitted and distributed with Siemens technology. The UTE selected Siemens to close the bottoming cycles due to our superior cycle design and differentiated performance at competitive price levels. These projects are an excellent example of Siemens' continued leadership position in the Argentina market and commitment to supplying the country's energy needs, said Mario Azar, Head of Gas Turbine Power Plant Solutions Americas in the Fossil Power Generation Division at Siemens Energy.
High-efficiency combined cycle power plants are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal year 2011, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about ¬30 billion, making Siemens one of the worlds largest suppliers of eco-friendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
The Siemens Energy Sector is the worlds leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for power generation in thermal power plants and using renewables, power transmission in grids and for the extraction, processing and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2011 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of EUR24.9 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR31.8 billion and posted a profit of EUR3.9 billion. On October 1, 2011, the Energy Sector had a work force of more than 82,000. Further information is available at: www.siemens.com/energy.
