Healthways, Health Care Service Corporation Extend Fitness Program Agreement Through 2015
Agreement Extends Long-Term Relationship, Provides HCSC Members Access to 8,000 Fitness and Wellness Facilities Nationwide
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Healthways (HWAY) today announced a three-year extension of their agreement with Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) offering the Prime Fitness program to approximately eight million HCSC commercial plan members. The agreement is effective immediately and runs through 2015, and promotes a solution designed to support healthy behaviors for individuals in the commercial population.
Prime Fitness is Healthways commercial well-being fitness program, inspiring participants to take charge of their own health and fitness by providing tools, resources and incentives they need to stay motivated and adopt more active lifestyles. The program provides eligible HCSC members with access to a national network of more than 8,000 fitness centers using a single membership card. Participating members will receive access to the program website where they can locate participating locations. Additionally, employer groups with an onsite corporate fitness center will also be able to track program utilization and award incentives to participating employees.
Regular physical activity prevents and controls health issues that influence healthcare costs and productivity. Research has shown that increasing physical activity from 0-1 times per week to more than 3 times per week decreased medical costs by $2,202 per year per person1. Physical activity can also mitigate health-related risks and improve the quality of life for those who already have chronic conditions.
For more than 75 years, HCSC has continually demonstrated their commitment to the health and well-being of their members. The long-term extension of the HCSC partnership with Healthways offering Prime Fitness further supports this member commitment, said Healthways president and chief executive officer Ben R. Leedle, Jr. Prime Fitness offers the benefits of physical activity with an effective combination of convenient access and motivational support, and we applaud HCSCs decision to continue offering the program in facilitating member efforts to achieve optimal health and well-being.
