OMA Reports a 5.9% Increase in April 2013 Passenger Traffic
MONTERREY, Mexico, May 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 5.9% in April 2013, as compared to April 2012. Domestic traffic increased 7.7%, and international traffic decreased 3.6%. It should be noted that year over year comparisons are affected by the fact that the Holy Week vacation period took place in April 2012, while in 2013 it occurred in March.
Of total April traffic, 97.6% was commercial aviation and 2.4% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in ten airports in April, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+12.7%), Reynosa (+20.4%), and Torreón (+16.2%). Monterrey traffic increased principally on the routes to Mexico City and Guadalajara. Reynosa and Torreón increased traffic on their Mexico City routes. The largest traffic reductions were in Zihuatanejo (-17.8%) and Ciudad Juárez (-3.4%). Both airports were affected by reductions on their Mexico City routes. VivaAerobus started operation of the Tampico-Toluca route during April.
International traffic increased most significantly in Zacatecas (+15.7%), with increases on the Chicago route. The largest decreases were in Zihuatanejo (-25.4%) and Monterrey (-1.5%), as a result of reductions on the routes to Los Angeles and Houston, respectively.
The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in April decreased 0.7% as compared to the same month of last year. The number of domestic operations increased 0.3% and international operations decreased 7.0%.
