Nuance Successfully Concludes CooTek Patent Infringement Case
CooTek Agrees to Cease Shipment of Keyboards Accused of Infringing on Nuance Swype and XT9 Patents
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nuance Communications, Inc. (NUAN) today announced the successful resolution of multiple patent infringement lawsuits against Shanghai HanXiang Information Technology Co., Ltd. (CooTek) involving patents covering Nuances text input products, Swype and XT9.
As part of an agreement between the companies, CooTek has agreed to stop shipping keyboards accused of infringing certain Nuance patents. The restriction applies to keyboards that are pre-installed by device makers, and the TouchPal keyboard for Android and iOS, available through Google Play and iTunes respectively. The settlement agreement requires CooTek to make technical changes to its products out of respect for Nuances XT9 and Swype patents. In addition, the settlement agreement requires that CooTek make financial payments to Nuance.
This settlement ends litigation pending between the companies in multiple venues, including the U.S. International Trade Commission, the U.S. Federal District Court of Delaware, and a court in Shanghai.
Nuance has been at the forefront of developing unique and innovative text input technology, and our patent portfolio reflects the ground-breaking nature of our Swype and XT9 products, said Todd Duchene, executive vice president and general counsel, Nuance. The depth and scope of our patent coverage in text input is unmatched by any other mobile solution provider in the field, and well continue to vigorously defend it.
