Australia's Senate passes the controversial Clean Energy Act - setting the stage for the new law to directly impact the country's 500 biggest polluters beginning on July 1, 2012. Under the closely-watched legislation, carbon emissions will be taxed at a fixed price of 23 Australian dollars ($23.8) per ton for 3 years before flexible pricing kicks in during 2015.

I love Aussies but I guess stupidity/ignorance knows no bounds.

Way to set the example for the Chinese - who are now laughing their heads off as they become even more competitive than they were while we in the West continue to try promote poliicies which will only euthanize our economies based upon junk science and fraud.

I am guessing they should be shorted but I don't really care that much.

    Don't give them ideas.

Hey, they're ginning up a campaign to regulate and tax sugar. Anything is possible with people intent on taking away your freedoms.

They won't send the taxes to God - they'll send it to a slush fund like the politicians do here.

    Hi Tack,

First they regulate heroin, then carbon emissions. Who knows what freedoms are now at risk, eh?
