McDonald's (MCD) says it will cut Angus burgers from its menu and will expand its line of Quarter Pounder items. The shift in strategy from the company is another bid to gain market share of value-oriented customers and follow the path of QSR rivals also increasing their focus on $1 menu items.

I've never understood what is the appeal for Angus meat. It's just a breed of cattle. Does Joe Public think just because beef has the word Angus on it, that it is special?

Surperb marketing by the angus association.

A well finished Hereford is just as tasty. Low stress, good diet, good genetics (of any breed) is the recipe for tasty IMHO.

However. Ranchers get docked in most parts of the US if he hide is not black and if it shows any ear (brahma influence).

It is really quite stupid but should be a case study in business schools on the power of perception.

Angus is a good breed in the upper Midwest but would be a poor choice for the Deep South.

The Angus burgers were one of the few descent burgers of MCD. The other being the double quarter pounder with cheese.

Agree, although I liked the quarter pounder and junior cheese burger.

Was that the one with a few slabs of Swiss cheese and mushroom? That was my favorite. I like 'em big. The new McWrap is not bad... far as fast food goes.

Yep, there were three Angus burgers:
    - classic - lettuce, tomatoes, onions, ketchup
    - Swiss cheese & mushrooms
    - bacon & cheese

I liked the Swiss best, too. Didn't like the McWrap that much, but their breakfast wrap is very tasty. Eggs, sausages, & cheese.
