BlackBerry (BBRY) +1.2% after Barron's provides a semi-favorable writeup about the potential of its BES 10 mobile device management (MDM) platform and network operations centers. The fact BlackBerry can pair its MDM software with a secure network could give it an edge, Barron's notes. However, it also points out MDM competition from startups (AirWatch, MobileIron) and bigger IT names (SAP, Citrix) is intense - Airwatch's chairman argues BES 10 is still "woefully behind" in supporting advanced management features for iOS/Android, such as FIPS 140 encryption.

AirWatch would say that but they have no idea what Blackberry BES 10 is capable of yet. They are probably hoping to gain a market share before BES 10 goes live. Do they have the ability to manage the OS 10 phones or for that matter a lot of the previous ones?

Blackberry does indeed support FIPS 140 - not surprised a competitor would try to cast them in a negative light, but lying? As an investor, would be skeptical of anything the Airwatch CEO says going forward.

It looks like AirWatch's chairman is talking about supporting FIPS 140 for iOS/Android hardware managed by BES 10, rather than not supporting it altogether.

All- Keep in mind AirWatch is a company formed by EX RIM employees.

BB Live will shed some light on BlackBerry BES 10 strategy.

Also note that BES 10 is in for testing in more companies than airwatch has as Customers.

Also keep in mind that Good technologies is suing Airwatch and Mobile Iron.

To the Author of this article: what's your reply? I love how you BB bashing share shorting Analysts open and close your articles with some negative comment! ie "Semi-favorable" "Woefully behind", etc.I guess since you can't fabricate negative news then the best you can do is say these things. The time of reckoning is coming soon ... your going to get burned holding on to all those short shares LOL!

I notice that all of the time, too. It's as though they just got to take that sucker punch before they go on their way.

Blackberry is making huge headway in Secure IT Global Markets and especially in the Mobile Banking Payments Sector.
Can Airwatch and MobileIron do this?

Semi-favourable seems OK to me. The author only pointed to the Airwatch CEO's comments. Why are so many of you paranoid, I am so long on BBRY and worry seeing people on heres reaction to anything but "I love you so much Thor and QWERTY and Z10 and Canada and the UK" (I do actually love you UK as it was here that BB never lost its loyal customers and caused me to invest)

BlackBerry does support FIPS 140. I mean wasn't it chosen by the DoD as their number one security priority. They gave it a nod after testing it. Samsung will never be as good as BlackBerry no matter how many Ex BlackBerry employees they have. All they do is take other phone manufacturers ideas which is why they were sued by AAPL.

I think the price increase is due to the BIG BBRY SHINDIG!
The Barron's piece is just noise.

I don't know about the rest of you but for me it feels like the calm before the BIG storm.
    Long BBRY

Our CEO called my boss today asking where our order of Q10s were. Since we already renewed with iP5s, that's $650 per Q10.
