Facebook is partnering with HTC (HTCCF.PK) to build a smartphone, according to All Things D's sources. Code-named Buffy, the phone will run on a highly customized version of Android (much like the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet), and will be built with HTML5 app support in mind. Facebook recently unveiled an HTML5 app platform, with the goal of minimizing its dependence on mobile app stores.

just don't get why social media and retailers want to build smartphones. People buy phones b/c of the technology leadership and/or price. Not b/c it ties you into AMZN or FB.

Again, who is going to tell their boss they want to use their new AMZN phone at work? Honest, I won't be shopping all day.
