Bill Gates confirms his latest pet project is helping China set up a new and safer type of nuclear reactor. A Gates-funded tech firm - TerraPower - is developing a Generation IV reactor that can run decades on depleted uranium and produce much smaller amounts of nuclear waste than traditional reactors. China's growing interest in nuclear stands in contrast to Germany's potentially-costly abandonment of the power source and a now decades-long stagnant program in the U.S.

Bill Gates should help people in the US--not people in China.

    Maybe you disagree?

I would think that Gates would love for the US to adopt "small nuke", but the US doesn't appear willing to do that. So he's going where it will be accepted. Look on the bright side -- when China shows it works, maybe everyone else will start calming down.

Small nuke is WAY cheaper and safer than big nuke. But few people are willing to listen to reason right now, post Fukushima.

We are probably beyond help. We got way too much regulations to get anything done. DOE will chase him off because he is onto its toes.

PVizzle, Thought leadership is in China now, get over it. Our government thought it was better to pay voters and otherwise waste our money on boondoggles than assure our thought leadership and success in the world. US politician's have successfully promoted brain dead philosophies (like global warming, endangered species, and nuclear fear) just to get elected and now we can't do the right thing because we are so invested in the wrong philosophy's.

I don't even know what this means. Chinese bureaucrats are just as lazy as American bureaucrats.

But the Chinese can change the bureaucracy on a dime. We on the other hand have invested so much in dumbing down Americans that even if something is the smart thing to do, we could not do it. For example, we could not ever think of exploring this kind of nuclear technology because everyone has been convinced that corporations are evil, that nuclear technology would destroy some wild habitat, and we could never manage nuclear technology without destroying the world. So we have lost the option that China is pursuing.

In other words our options are limited because we don't discuss reality. Instead we discuss political ideology and impractical philosophies void of any reality. Why? Because reality won't keep the political bias, racial divide and class warfare going and that is needed to keep one political party in power.
