BlackBerry (BBRY) has upped its component purchases from Taiwanese suppliers thanks to strong BB10 sales, supply chain sources tell Digitimes. The sources add Indonesian and Middle Eastern sales are healthy, and that if other emerging markets prove strong, BlackBerry is likely to ship 30M-40M smartphones in 2013 - Feb. quarter shipments totaled 6M, and were down 23% Y/Y. BBRY +1% in spite of lower NASDAQ futures. The sell-side has been arguing back and forth over BB10's early reception.

Kudos....not only does this help the bulls case for the hardware part of the company, as we saw with another article on a French carrier, but wait until the news comes out on the software/enterprise solution...This company is greatly undervalued and worth at least $20.....unfortunately, DF is right, we have to wait for June 28th to get rid of the massive short side. Once they cover, with great news on the enterprise front, this thing will rip higher....LONG to $35

This is really good news; however, BBRY is currently down by 2%. I really cannot understand this. I would have expected this great news to have triggered the famous Short Squeeze...

    @ Frank Siedler and Robert:

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually, Pacific Crest just published another negative article about BBRY stipulating that production is outpacing sells. This is nothing new (negative articles); however, what is starting to make me uncomfortable is that although the company is great, the stock is not. This was echoed in an SA's article a couple of days ago by a Contributor who was bullish and turned bearish recently.

To me, this has been a very poor investment and again this has nothing to do with the fact that I like what the company is doing and its current leadership; however, I am very close to getting rid of my shares as I can no longer wait for those "strings to be pulled" furthermore....

If you check the math Pacific Crest just bumped their estimates from 300k BB10 devices last quarter to 1.5 million per quarter. Which means they just increased their estimates ~5 folds! As the results will show yet again Pacific Crest is going to be way off the mark.

Also, isn't it interesting that by repeatedly doing this they are causing folks who have been long thus far to give away their shares thus very likely helping the shorts cover their position?

The enterprise purchase cycle here in US hasn't even kicked in as yet, second the BES 10 sales are still to show up on $BBRY's radar.

    Questions to ask is:
    1) what is your age
    2) what are your goals
    3) what is your time frame

For me, not being even 30, I have all the time I want to sit on (BBRY). I did not invest a lot (okay, currently about 6% of my portfolio), because I expected it would take years for (BBRY) to reach full potential. Key to investing is patience.

But if you don't have the time to wait and want a steady growing investment (not a quick jump up and down), try (APO), (LGF), (HD), (LL), (SPF), and (DDD).

What surprised me and raised my suspicion is "Pacific Crest just published another negative article about BBRY stipulating that production is outpacing sells." And why doesn't (BBRY) know that production is outpacing sells? Why isn't (BBRY) then cutting production, since they would be throwing away money? Sorry, but the company is the first to know about its production, not a research firm?

I am not arguing in support of PC's logic, but there are times when companies keep production high to keep costs low with the expectation that sales will pick up steam. In real terms, this translates to expectations failing to align with reality.

Now, the reason I do not believe this is the case with BBRY is simply because the CEO seems to be the master of operations management, and I do not see him missing targets with such a wide margin, as the article suggests.

Looks like $BBRY has a good handle/filler on the demand from the enterprise customers, in particular, as we know most of the enterprise customers are long due for a refresh. This also means that BES 10 orders will be filling in soon.

The article talks about small sized "LCD" panels - does this mean Q5? I was under the impression that like Q10, Q5 also uses OLED. If so then what are these small sized "LCD" panels for. Z10 is based on LCD but the screen is not small sized.

I think this is related to ramping up for mid to entry level BB10 Penetration. LCD vs Super Amoulded. We need to see some pricing here and margins. Think starting up the R channel.

With conservative estimates of 8m units for Q1 and I'm to apply a 15% error correction that was published by National Bank- Kris Thompson although he still bearish with BB and I dont know why considering his positive views, to which I say another reverse psycholoy tactics and now Digitimes supporting that fact of expected 30 to 40m units for 2013 - BB units quarterly sales will fall into 9 t0 9.2 million units that translates into an EPS of $1.20 to $1.30 for Q1

If the above will materialize in this quater, then Prem Watsa is right that BB value should be at around $40 speaking only of this year.

I think they are making more Playbooks since their inventory is running low!! Not! Very likely to support the Q5 launch which is only a few weeks away.

I added calls on another 20,000 BBRY this morning. Highly speculative but could be highly rewarding too. September $18 calls at $0.79. Could expire worthless of course, but could also be $2.00 plus if BBRY can break $20.

I am calling for NI for the quarter just ended of $500 million more or less, or about $1 per share.

This type of info is an extremely valuable indicator, to get an idea of what's going on with regards of sales. Not only that BBRY has been tight lipped about how the sales are going. That is a very strong indicator of massive sales forecasts looming. The shorts must be going insane right about now! If production is increased and component purchases are increasing it obviously means they are selling a lot of hardware.

    Robert.from.Ct,
You probably heard the expression '' if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen''This is how it is when investing in equities. You have to believe in the story and put your $$$ down. If you still believe and you can buy at lower prices, don't hesitate, buy more, and so on until you run out of funds. At this point just stick to the stock that you bought because you were convinced it would do much better in the future. You could suffer paper losses over short periods, but eventually you will win over the long term. If you come to a point where you don't believe any more for whatever reason(s) then you are much better off to sell, take a loss and move on to another story you believe in. I have been long BBRY for a long time now, and my belief is stronger than it ever was. I will take opportunities like today to buy a bit more, slowly, because $$$ are not unlimited even though I strongly believe in the comeback of BBRY. Where do you stand? !!!

@oneinfiniteloop^^ Your right it is the screen for the Q5, but it looks like they also put orders for other components not related to Q5 Any way it is a good sign too because it shows they don't want to be in short supply when the Q5 is launched. Which is an improvement on the way they launched the other too products.

Apple cannot deliver any blows at all until they have a stable OS that is DOD approved for secure info. They have been approved for non-secure traffic. There is nothing in sight have would be allowed to carry secure info and the rest is noise.

@ All The Longs on BBRY:

I have been on this stock for months (with a very large position), and just as the article published a couple of days (by a former bull who turned bear), I am an inch close to give up and sell my tens of thousands of shares. Sorry all my long friends; however, although I love the company I am starting to think that the stock is simply not a winner. Taking a long position on BBRY (I own shares not options) has been a very costly investment for me, and there is a limit to how much more I am prepared to loose!
PS: As I am writing this note, the BBRY is now at $13.89 (or 3.68% down)!!!

If you are convinced about the BBRY story, then you should not give up. If you really question their future, then I have to ask why you invested to begin with? Conviction based on rational analysis should trump the fear all these shorts want you to suffer and respond with.

@thecatman, if it helps in anyway, just watch the first two lectures by Prof. Shiller on Yale's website (or through iTunes if you use a Mac). He shows week to week chart of Apple over last 6 years or so, you should see the gyrations that $AAPL went through and he says, "just look at those gyrations on a week to week basis, it must have been stomach churning for those who were invested in it..."

I agree with TS. If you're a short term investor than you should sell. This is a classic bear raid. It has happened before. I'm not worried at all. The only people that are very worried are those that want to make a killing with BBRY in a very short time period. It won't happen. I was just on Twitter following $BBRY and people are acting like the world is over and the shorts are popping open champagne bottles while laughing at the longs.

BBRY is not for the faint-hearted. If you can't sit out a ditch, you will struggle to make money on BBRY.

Okay some people stated that this article is bogus! Does anyone have any conclusive proof of the authenticity of this article, or any of the facts presented in the aritcle! It would be nice to know, because i don't see it being reported anywhere else!

why is anyone mentioning Apple and DoD that is old news. Why would DOD select Apple and Ditch Blackberry they should know by now that Iphone runs on Old outdated OS. BB runs on New stable and very expandable OS! Isn't that a no brainer?

Our good old friend, i wish him all the best ;-)
If it's really so bad, why had BlackBerry not announced a warning? Because there is nothing bad!

    Hi Frank:

I agree. Also, the timing of the article was perfect. I'll give him that. I'll worry the moment Prem Watsa gives up on BB. I'm adding to my position at 12:50pm.

    -Cheers!

I think, Mr. Watsa isn't buying a stock, which has such a small upswing, even if he has bought at $6. I think he's waiting for a little bit more :-)
We know, when he is buying, then he wants a little bit more ... he wants his fingers on the company, or am i wrong?

This is the same shill that spread the Z10 return FUD. SEC really has no control over the use of mass internet media to push investor agenda. These asshats should be taken to task!

Pac Crest doesn't even bother to pretend they do research any more. Barron's: "Faucette doesn't say what the source is of his contention about sales." http://bit.ly/143FEby

However, remember that the only official statements regarding earnings from BBRY were at the time of the last quarterly and those warned investors to expect single digit drop in subscriber revenue and the statements on the whole to come in just below break even due to high marketing costs associated with the launch.

Since earnings warnings in advance of the release of financial statements are just that, "Earnings Warnings', I doubt with how low they set the bar that a warning would be needed even if sales were very poor.

    @ Frank Siedler,

    I believe Prem has a $17.00 break-even on BB.

But he also claims that he is long term and that the stock will be worth $40 in the near future.

What is up with the volume today?

It is unusual on a Friday (usually a quiet day) to see higher than average trading with no significant news coming out (unless I've missed it).

If it is a Bear Raid, the timing doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. That is unless it is a coordinated push to drive the stock down in advance of US Q10 Launch next week in the US and positive earning forecasts in advance of the quarterly report.

    Ah, him again.

In other words great time to buy since he has been dead wrong with every statement he has made so far regarding BBRY. I don't get it how strongly the market seems to react to his statements considering how he tends to contradict himself within his own releases.

With the seriousness of the allegations he is making I wonder if it will prompt a response from BBRY? Basically he is accusing BBRY of falsifying sales by stuffing the channels and TH of lying with the repeated comments he has been making regarding sales doing better then expected.

To bad I missed the closing bell for the day - hope it is still down below 14 on Monday, great time to pick up more.

I don't know why people listen to James faucette and push the sell button. Looks like they have no conviction for the company and are just going in for making a fast buck. You need a lot of patience and hopefully June 28 will reward those who hung in.

Ovenboy, excellent, thanks for the comments.
I don't want to excite people but I do believe occasionally opportunities are served up to those who "can wait and not be tired by waiting".
I believe BBRY is a nice opportunity. As Willy once said:"There is a tide in the affairs of men which if taken at the flood leads on to fortune..." The tide is now upon us, let us take it or lose our ventures!

my comment above is made long term--I have no idea how the shorts will manipulate the stock price or for how long--whether it goes up--down--or side ways--I have resolved not to be bullied or intimidated by them--"Great is truth and has the mastery."
Eventually it will be weighed by the tremendous value it will bring to the table and people will look back and say how easy a call it was to buy it--not realizing the silly volatility etc which confuses us poor mortals.

I had a "surreal" moment today (I mean it in good terms :) I was using my Z10 and happened to click on an audio link through SoundCloud to listen in on a podcast and Z10 threw a popup saying that the website is attempting to gather personal information and that the access was blocked. It also warned me that following the link will end up compromising personal information on the device!

I guess right there BB10 just saved me from inadvertently handing over personal data!

What is really strange is this article ins not posted on Yahoo Fiance or MS Money as is typical of all Seeking Alpha articles.

But the Pac Crest rebuttal to this article is posted on both sites.

    What going on?????
