Calendar Q2 iPhone (AAPL +0.6%) sales are trending towards ~30M (above a ~27M consensus), says Jefferies' Peter Misek in an info-packed note. Misek also: 1) Believes Apple has set aggressive Q3 and Q4 iPhone build plans, with nearly half the Q4 builds involving a cheaper iPhone. 2) States the iPad Mini is "cannibalizing more than expected," and expects the current model to be kept and discounted after a retina model launches. 3) Expects the 5th-gen iPad to be ~50% lighter and 30%-40% thinner. 4) Thinks AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) are talking with Chinese white-box OEMs about selling carrier-branded phones, in an effort to cut subsidy costs. 5) Believes consumer BlackBerry Z10 (BBRY +0.5%) sales have slowed, but that Q10 sales are better than expected.

I'm waiting for the Z10 wifi. Right now I'm happy with my Playbook, and I'll be happier when BB10 is available for download!

No, i love my Z10, too :-) I think, there are many more! And my new Christmas present, the A10, is in work! :-) BlackBerry is on the right track, and if they don't reduce their speed, what i don't expect, they are rising to old strength! It was also great that so much interest is from the Fortune 500! :-)

The Q10 has no life after the BB diehards get theirs. The Z10 is not doing well and will follow in the footsteps of the Storm, Torch and Playbook. I suppose the Q5 could make a small dent but with the midrange iPhone and the plethora of cheap android sets not to mention the Asha 210 at $75, I see no future for the Candian icon.

I know someone who has a Z10 and loves it. Im a Nokia WP8 user myself and would not switch, but after using the Z10 I can say it is a nice system with a good user interface.

I'm pretty happy with the user interface on the Playbook, but it's the availability of apps that killed it. Once BB10 is available for download, I believe the Playbook will return and help with Blackberry sales. They need to offer affordable devices that aren't carrier dependent. This is what made Apple strong. The iPod. How about a Z10 Wifi?

I wrote in a former article, that it might be good, when North-North American and North America would be united! BlackBerry and Apple in a cooperation, is something I could imagine. I don't know how it could work, but then there would be enough strike capacity for both! Perhaps they could combine their hardware, and the customers could choose, which OS they use ...
As conclusion, it doesn't make sense, that Apple and BlackBerry will kill each other! Then only the others laugh....

You are right, it doesn't make sense; how on earth would Apple and BlackBerry "kill" each other? Each will either sell enough to be profitable or not, which has no direct impact on the other, unless by some fluke one becomes totally dominant, which appears to be less and less likely as the competition increases.

Combine hardware, which both OSs can run on? Nope, I don't know how that would work, either!

Well, i only thought about to combine the strengths of both, that they can compete still better at the market! A symbiotic cooperation! ... perhaps Apple could use QNX ... BlackBerry some hardware ...

Well, any two companies could do the same, if there was a degree of compatibility, but I just don't see it here! Apple could have bought out BBRY when they were cheaper, and may have profited from shutting it down, but it's a bit late now...

Otherwise, I just can't see why they'd want to merge.

The Z10 is a wonderful phone for the low budget consumer that cannot afford a iPhone. I have tested one out and it fails in every respect to match the iPhone, starting with significantly lower grade display.

Silly comment. My Z10 shows two to three more bars of reception over my wife's iphone(poor girl). When hers has no reception she grabs mine to finish her conversation. The Iphone is near junk in todays market.

Don't know how they do this channel checking, but it is most likely a very inaccurate very of determining anything because from what I am hearing in the industry the interest and selling price is very much still there for the Z10, Don't understand how or what has motivated Misek to say it's has slowed. People just need to understand that Blackberry does not solely rely on phone sales to survive, There business is much more than that and in time it will reveal itself.

We are having a hard time understanding Blackberry's position in the market because their popularity is more overseas then in America. It is for the business man, and those who want a higher level of security or privacy on their device. I own a Playbook, and as soon as BB10 comes out for it I know I will shelve my Tab 2. It has a better screen resolution, better camera, all it needs now is a better OS and it's back in action. With the Android acceleration the Playbook will no longer live with a handicap. I have a good feeling about Blackberry's future, hopefully they learn from Apple's mistakes. Greed is the Achilles heel of the largest corporatists.

I don't know what to say. The proof is in the pudding. I have both iphone and z10. The iphone is used by my kids to watch minecrqft utube videos. The second is used by me for business and enterprise workstation use. They both have their purpose I suppose.

Haven't seen this much pumping (of blackberry) since I was on porntube this morning. As if what you bought individually was in anyway representative of most other were doing! You guys forget easily that this market is basically a duopoly between Samsung and Apple.

Actually Apple is a Samsung in disguise, so your saying it's a one man show. I believe pretty soon that Blackberry, and the new made in America Windows phone will have a strong presence in the marketplace.

Folks, if you love your Z10 or Galaxy S4 or any other Android phone or tablet, enjoy them to the fullest. Why do you feel obligated to bad-mouth the iPhone or the iOS? You cannot enjoy what you love if you spend so much time and energy in hating the iPhone.

it's not the iPhone...it's Mac haters in general. After the Nightline report on the Foxconn facility that manufacturers the iPod, and their other devices saw the repercussions of Apple's insane profit margin. After the Made in America windows phone comes out we will see for sure how the American people respect humane labor practices. $4 to make and you pay $600? Kinda makes you feel like a chump...

I don't own a Z10, but I would choose a Z10 over an iPhone anyday. for two reasons, one, you can change the battery, and two, it's not an Apple.

How can you build a cheaper iPhone then $4? All they have to do is drop their prices, but I guess they want to get their cost down to .50 cents first...just wait until the made in America windows phone comes out...do I hear taps?

I have not read anything from Misek in a while, and would be interested to see a more complete transcript of his thoughts but I do find the working of the press release interesting.

"Believes consumer BlackBerry Z10 (BBRY +0.5%) sales have slowed, but that Q10 sales are better than expected."

This is the first time I can recall him coming out simply with a statement like "Believes" rather than detailing the source of his data and providing something more specific.

Are we talking down from 1m/month to 900k/month, or down to more in the 500K/month region?

If the Q10 is doing better than expected, is it better than the 1m/month bullish analysts predicted or the 2m/month TH suggested he believed was probable?

What is the 'revised' monthly number for all BB10 devices combined?

What time frame are we talking?

Is the Q10 cannibalizing Z10 sales? Some drop in sales after preliminary pent up demand for the Z10 was satisfied could be expected since many would have been waiting for the Q10 before deciding.

Are we talking about just US Market sales, or are we talking Global sales?

From my perspective, this tidbit asks more questions than it answers.

If Blackberry does what Apple continuously fails to do, and thinks about their past consumers with the release of BB10 on Playbook, I will gain a higher respect for them. Their devices were always superior, but lacked important applications. With the new BB10 with Android accelaration, every Blackberry device will be a home run.
